What exactly feels different this time? The fact that its more private? The NHL recently modified it’s “make whole” provision. What does the NHLPA do? They offer 2 new proposals. The NHL has got it. If the NHL were selling the NHLPA a car, it would go something like this. Ok, I have this model in Blue at this price. NHLPA response, Were not interested in that. What about these 3. NHL, well what if we tweak the price a little, or maybe a different color?. NHLPA, You know what, what about these other 2 over here?

A deal is not imminent. Fehr still has players believing in him. Fehr WILL NOT cave to the owners and the owners DO NOT want to agree to things that Fehr is not budging on.

And you are obviously on one side then, eh? My argument is centered around both sides making offers and then staying in the room to resolve the situation, and not just walking out. I don’t care what side your on. I’m sorry but I don’t believe a thing you say about the specifics of the offers bc, in the end, you’re just a commentor on a blog. You may know SOME of the specifics, but you certainly don’t know all of them or the tone being used in these meetings. What is a fact, however, is what it takes to resolve an issue and it isn’t digging in your heals and then walking out of a room when the other side makes multiple counter-proposals. Finally, yes the owners did come back a while ago with an offer that was a ‘giant leap’ from their first offer but nobody actually looked at their first offer seriously. They represented the unrealistic and one-sided demands of the owners and we all knew it was just the first of many offers. I think the NHLPA has an equal part in this mess but don’t paint the owners as the good guys here. They are the one’s cancelling games, walking out of meetings, and cancelling the largest hockey event of the year two and a half months in advance.

Consdiering that a majority of Americans voted for him, it wouldn’t be a shock if any one random person voted for the President. Sounds like you’re butt hurt that your idiology was rejected by the country as a whole. To bad, so sad.

…and I would be careful making what can be interpreted as death threats aimed at the President. Thats a good way to get yourself arrested, even if you do it on an internet forum/comment.

Actually the players released their offers, including a break down of the numbers. So we know the specifics quite well.

I’d also point out the league made the two offers leading up to the players counter offer a couple weeks ago, and that they were giant leaps from their first offer. So they most certainly have not been sitting back.

You can be on one side or the other… but you can’t have your own facts. Sorry.

To think either one of us knows much about the specifics of the offers is assuming too much. My point is that the players are making offers and the league is patiently sitting back, waiting to see something they like. Instead of hashing it out like they seem to be trying to do now, they walked out after 10 minutes last time. The only way this gets fixed is when they stick to it and work on figuring it out vs the owners posturing by saying ‘no’ and then leaving, like they are 100% in control of this.

You ignore the fact that the players “three offers” a couple weeks ago were really just different versions of their first offer the owners had previously rejected. They shuffled some numbers around but in the end were pretty much the same thing. Its also worth pointing out that, but their own numbers, the players “50/50 split” offer was actually a 56.7/43.3 split in year one.

So its really not fair to jump on the owners for walking out on those offers…

One tweet by someone not in the room isn’t reason to panic.

The last time the players made any sort of offer, the owners were out of the room in 15 minutes and the two sides didn’t meet for weeks. The simple fact that the players made an offer of some sorts to the owners yesterday and the two sides are meeting today is reason to have a touch of optimism.

So the players offered three plans last time they met, weeks ago. The owners walked out. Now the players are offering two more plans. If this doesn’t work, it’s not for lack of trying and the NHL should AT LEAST come back with something instead of just saying ‘no’. Agreed with some folks above, there were a lot of one on one meetings the past week and the fact they are spending so much time together is good so hopefully something comes of it. I have a good feeling, too. The owners have to budge from their last offer though. They are only going to assure the whole season if lost if they don’t budge bc the players are making offers left and right.

I agree. And I like that both sides haven’t complained and just sat in a room away from everyone else to try and hammer this out. This was what they needed to be doing months ago, though, I think both sides planned to miss part of the season just for leverage.

Just let it be over with and give the fans their game back, I want hockey.
