I don’t see it. If that was the case, then why not sell to Balsille? He wanted to move them and he was blocked from buying the team.

It absolutely makes sense that the team should be moved, but I just haven’t heard a reason yet as to why the NHL would change their tune when they’ve been singing the same song for years now.

There’s only “one” docket Elvis and that’s Bettman’s. Maybe not a nice thing, but that’s the way it is regardless. Whatever clout the players had will be completely erased once this new CBA is signed. As for Jamison, that’s a complete crock. His supposed “interest” in buying the team is nothing more than a smoke screen to cover up this “eye sore” until the CBA business is completed. Once that’s done however, I believe that Bettman will finally acknowledge that it’s time to move this franchise … and I believe that he’ll do so quickly.

And whose docket is that? The NHLPA’s when they want to review how revenue sharing is doled out and why the NHL continues to prop up failing teams?

I don’t think the NHL has any serious plans to move Phoenix since they’ve shut it down at every turn so far. I think they’ll only even begin to consider it if the Jamieson deal finally falls through after all this time. Even then if they have a new CBA in place, they don’t have much forcing their hand to make the NHL look more profitable.

This is just one more market the NHL should not be in. Teams in marginal hockey markets are a major problem with the league.

Not a bad idea ! Perhaps they could try reaching out to Celine Dion to see if she might consider doing a “nightly” gig there for the next 4-5 years eh ? In all seriousness, I bet you anything that a resolution to this Phoenix conundrum is going to be the next big thing up on the docket, once the CBA business is resolved. And I believe that will involve “relocation” post haste.

That’s part of the reasoning I don’t understand. For an arena that size you have to have a major tenant. Since the Suns already have an arena, and football/baseball won’t work, you’re left with trying to keep the hockey team you already have or filling it year-round with conventions and concerts. If the latter works better for the city of Glendale than the lease agreement with the Coyotes, then good for them. If not, then why did they build it in the first place?

Like that’s going to happen. Glendale has made it clear they do not want a hockey franchise in their city. If they did this would have been done some time ago.

Maybe they (the city council and mayor’s office) can get some pointers on how to woo NHL teams from Nassau County in NY.
