The Stanley Cup should be awarded sometime around the middle of May. Start training camps September 1st, play 4 preseason games each, and then start the regular season somewhere in the September 15th to September 20th window, it’s not like the 60′s where players needed a month of camp to get in shape, today’s players come to camp in shape. Hockey should be over at the latest in the week between Victoria Day and Memorial Day since that’s the unofficial start to summer.

I can tolerate games in May, if it’s great hockey, though the quality of the games tends to slip as the worn out survivors move along from round to round. I’d rather not see June hockey, and sorry, but that really is baseball season.

Joking aside, playoffs should end by May 1 at the latest. I lose interest when the weather becomes nice outside.

July 1 is end of NHL fiscal year and the start of free agency. There is no chance games will be played in July.

Hockey isn’t basketball pal. If you’ve ever played at a decent level of hockey you would realize the toll the game takes on the body and how difficult it already is to play 2-3 times per week for 82 games and then playoffs.

I am all for an 82 game season. With the NBA last year with their lockout, it was great seeing the games crammed into a tighter time frame. You saw your favorite team about every other day. With extending the end of the playoffs a few weeks, I don’t see why they couldn’t play all 82 games, assuming the season starts soon. The owners get their revenue, the players get their full salaries, I get mega doses of hockey. Everyone wins!

Your analogy involving hot chicks and friends who can’t scram is very appropriate. I also think that pushing the schedule into the middle of summer would be wrong and I honestly don’t see that happening. What I can see however, is a circa “70″ game schedule starting by US Thanksgiving, which will feature at least 5 “plus” games compacted in along the way. It’s important to remember that the schedule is already set and that all they’ve done is to “shave off” the initial portion. You’ll recall how this was to be done in increments of two weeks. Well it’s interesting to note how the second announcement of cancelled games quizzically went from a 2 week block to a 5 week block, right through to the end of November ? I would contend that this was done intentionally in-order to apply further psychological pressure on the NHLPA. Our friend Id4joey has already pointed out for us how Bettman and crew are definitely using “PSYOPS” as a tactic in achieving their goals (ie: the premature WC cancellation which is likely reversible). The bottom line is that we’ll likely have a “70 game” season now that goes through to the end of June and not beyond. I also see next season starting around November 1st which will become the norm thereafter.

Please get the deal done guys … we miss our hockey and we want her back !

Personally I don’t really see much of an issue with them playing into July. Next years season could be pushed back a couple weeks so the summer break isn’t too short. The schedual might be a bit rough this year, but these guys are the best athletes in the world… I think they can handle it for one season.

With that said I don’t actually think there will be an 82 game season, if there is a deal at all.

Let’s hope not. I know they want their money but let not go past like June 20th or so. You dragged your feet on this (both sides) so live with the consequences and don’t have an 82 game schedule.
