First time I’ve come close to agreeing with either side. As a fan really not happy with the amount of time they’ve spent doing nothing. Don’t think the NHL is in a position to think fans will come rushing back no matter when they decide to. Think as fans we should make it known for everyday they spend not working on a deal, is one day fans won’t be watching or attending a game when they decide to come back.

Wait…..”more” negotiating? Doesn’t that imply that they have done so in the first place?

Does 3 “offers” where the union didn’t even bother to run the numbers now count as negotiations to these idiots? They CAN’T be that stupid, can they? If they lack of any actual offer from the union is NOT part of a larger already agreed upon strategy from the union, the Fehrs should go to jail for how they’ve handled this.

They’ve sat back and not given ANY offer that they thought had any chance of being accepted, while waiting for the league to keep moving towards thier position. It worked with MLB, why not with the NHL? News flash for Fehr, MLB was NEVER losing money, and besides, I think if you poll the players, more than 80% would not want the MLB model (you know, 25+ teams just being farm systems for 7-8 elite teams), so it’s an idiotic bargaining position to begin with

A couple more months? If they wait 2-3 more months their wont be a season. You cant have a 30 game season. Then up to 28 games of playoffs. If the season doesnt start by christmas i doubt theirs a season at all.

Fehr is the advocate for the NHLPA. He does not have the power to do what he wants. He’s doing what the players want. Quit blaming him for this lockout. Its a lockout, not a strike. The owners locked out the players. Just like they locked them out when the previous CBA expired. I hope the players don’t cave in. And I hope Bettman and Daly resign right after the deal gets done. They’re more of a problem than Fehr.

No one is actually sure if thats true or not… thats just what Fehr was telling the media. Did you ever think that perhaps every time the owners met with the players, Fehr simply said “This is what we want… we’ll talk when you’re ready to accept”?

I mean it had to be something along those lines since the players that actually know whats happening behind the scenes are starting to demand Fehr actually start negotiating. They wouldn’t be doing that if it was the owners who refused to talk.

We’re not talking about nba players here, most NHL players are very good at living a regular lifestyle. In fact that’s probably more than enough right now because they’re only paying the mortgage in their home city not paying for a rental plus living expenses in their team’s city.

You see any mansions, bling, 20 man entourages, strip clubs, or numerous baby mamas on HBO 24/7? Nope. What I’d like to see from you is a single shred of evidence to back that statement.

8% of salary in escrow and $10k month. I don’t think a lot of players are doing just fine! They have big mortgages and big lifestyle. Do you know a 37 yr old free agent or 4th line tough guy making $800k per year how he’s doing? I’d like to hear. They want contracts and want to play and earn thier $. And I want them to. If your talking about the 1st guys making 3 mil and up and accounting for 70% of team cap, no worries!

This doesn’t mean the “players will cave”. They’ve already stood their ground through one season lost. They’re even more determined and pissed this time around. Saying they want more negotiation isn’t an indicator of “caving”. They players are doing just fine for money, they’re getting their escrow from last season and they get 10K per month from the PA. Think about that……10K per month. I think that’s enough to live on. LOL.

How do you do “more negotiating” when the other side won’t meet with you? Unless the players give up and accept the owners’ last offer, the owners have no incentive to go back to the table. Rest assured this hasn’t been “lost in the talk” by the owners. You can bet they saw this and are licking their collective chops.

I also think the players don’t want to lose a season because no one was talking. If you lose the year while negotiating at least it wasn’t in silence like most of the fall back in 04.

I don’t necessarily think that it means too much. There’s two parties to every negotiation, so it’s going to take an effort from the owners to meet as well. The lack of direct dialogue these last two weeks shows the lack of urgency, even with the Winter Classic in danger. It’s disappointing to say the least, and I’m glad to see the players want to see more negotiating, but the owners and Bettman have to be on board too

They are starting to realize that the money they will lose by not playing this season (a full season’s pay) vastly outweighs the money they will be giving up in the future if they get this deal done. Dollars and cents starting to create sense.
