Completely agree with Roenick (which is strange because I normally don't agree with him at all). But in this case I can't see what's taking them so long either. They aren't in disagreement over the whole economic system and aren't even disagreeing at where the revenue split should end up. If there were major differences in those areas I could see this taking some time, but they've effectively agreed to the system going forward. The only difference is in how to get there and even in that area we're talking about what amounts to a few percent difference over a couple seasons. It's a standoff in which they aren't actually in much disagreement. If the games that have already been cancelled aren't rescheduled, the players will have already lost more than they're fighting to keep. Even with the negativity towards the league from a lot of fans they've probably already hurt the league enough to lose that money from lower revenue even if it was a full season.

When they're down to fighting over a few hundred million (which is all it would be if revenue growth was even modest), it doesn't take long for that to just disappear. The best deal the players can likely get is to forget about the full contracts and go to probably 53%, 51%, 50% over the next few years. With growth that would be maybe a 7% hit on their salaries next season and little to no hit in the seasons after that. If they lose a full season or even half a season to hold out for that deal, they will have already lost far more than that. At some point they need to be practical about this. They aren't fighting for future players in this case because they're going to a 50/50 split within a few seasons either way so future players will be operating at 50/50.

Jeremy Roenick didn't seem too optimistic on Costas Tonight.

He sounded like "well... I hope there's a season, I hope a season can be salvaged. it obvious the players and owners aren't coming to an agreement, so hopefully someone will step up and say he look we need to do what's right for the gale of hockey."

but we all know that is not happening!
the day the NHL owners do something for the spirit of the game... well, ill be very surprised!

I'm honestly over it. we've already missed a half a season pretty much. I got my ECHL and AHL stream subscriptions @ American One Sports online, I'm good!!!
GO KOMETS!!!
