It would certainly seem that it would be helpful to have a grownup in the room, if for no other reason than to teach the NHL that negotiating doesn’t mean saying “take our offer or go away.” It means looking for ways to get some of what each side needs and letting go of what they want but can live without, so that each can be at least somewhat happy.
