Czech Extraliga team Chomutov received a $1,555 fine on Tuesday after the club’s fans subjected Wayne Simmonds to racial taunts during a Sunday game, Agence France-Presse reports.

Chomutov officials condemned the fans’ actions on their Web site and also wrote Simmonds a letter of apology while Simmonds’ current team Liberec also provided a statement.

If the ordeal bothers Simmonds, it seems like he’s using it as motivation.

Much like scoring during a shootout as a preseason incident occurred in 2011, Simmonds had a productive day on the ice in his latest game. He scored two goals in a 3-2 Liberec win against Brno, according to’s Bill Meltzer.

It’s already been a busy locked-out season for Simmonds considering this situation and the fact that he bolted from his German second division team to join Liberec almost a week ago.

On the bright side for Simmonds, his big new six-year, $23.85 million extension doesn’t kick in until the 2013-14 campaign, so this strange exodus at least won’t hurt his wallet quite as much as it could have.

Report: Ontario police might know who threw a banana at Wayne Simmonds

I missed the part where the color of a kid’s skin has something to do with his game. Keep rollin’, Wayne.

That’s ridiculous, why does it make sense for a club to get fined for a bunch of morons in the stands.

Is there any way the club could have known those jerks we’re going to do that?….NO! Furthermore what good does it do in stopping it from happening again.

So, great, some organization got hand out. And the mentality of those stupid individuals hasn’t changed a bit. That mindless solution is as appauling as the phrases themselves. STUPIDITY DOESN’T FIX STUPIDITY!

    Stay klassy, fans.

Stay strong my dude. You can only imagine the impact he is having on kids of minority decent that play the coolest game on earth.

He should probably consider going back to play for the Germans if he didn’t have to put up with that kind of racism from them. I’ve gotten the impression that in some of those eastern european countries, they are a bit more hostile toward people of color.

you are 100% correct. we’ve got a russian kid on our junior team, holy crap i’ve never heard so many racial slurs from one white boy

Dude is heck of a player! Wish he stayed with LA.

  7. LoyalFan34yrsGoKings - Oct 30, 2012 at 11:44 PM

    He rocks! Hardworking team player!

Pretty much all of Europe is super racist. Minus France.

    • hockeywithdrawal - Oct 31, 2012 at 8:09 AM

Wait – isn’t that pretty much the most racist thing you could possibly say in this situation?

    • thesableo - Nov 2, 2012 at 1:52 PM
      There are racists everywhere, dude.

  9. id4joey - Oct 31, 2012 at 7:15 AM

illadelphiasphinest, you add USA to the list.

I’d like to know where the money goes.

The club couldn’t have done anything else to prevent or deter this from happening again. They sent personal letters of apology to Simmonds, also…the fine was just another example of bandwagoning. The fans there were wrong, and acted cowardly and extremely stupid. Fining the team is basically the league saying they were at fault, which isn’t true.

It’s no wonder we can’t stomp out stupidity like this when we attack the wrong people.

    • ucaneverscorenoughgoals - Oct 31, 2012 at 8:46 AM

Exactly!……..Focus on ways of eliminating racism rather than throwing money around and acting like a good deed has been done.

I’m not so sure the team should have been fined. Understand that I’m certainly not saying that the idiot who made the slurs was right to do so – but the TEAM has no control over the fans in the stands. That’s the venue’s responsibility by way of its security/guest relations people (even if the team owns the venue), or if a law was broken, the local constabulary. If some jerk is getting out of hand, handle it like the NFL and MLB do – give the fans a way to discreetly contact security and have said jerk escorted to a holding room downstairs.

To wait for Mr. Simmonds to arrive.

      I like it!

Haters can’t look beyond the surface; ignorance and fear are the common denominators. Get back to the ice soon for the Orange & Black!

John Tortorella: “What all these racists need to do is JUST SHUT UP.”

But seriously, Wayne Simmonds has put up with enough. If I run into idiots like this in my home arena, I will politely tell them to shove that banana they were about to throw up their a**.
