Where's the honor ? Where's the " honor " in making 100 million a year guaranteed money to play hockey ...? How much does a us marine make again ? Anyway, considering half of the teams are losing money and only make money if they make the playoffs screams for a reduction in salary and a new revenue stream... Espn2 ? Espn Mexican channel? I don't care but NBC and versus hunting channel is not enough revenue. If not got rid of some of these trashs teams who don't need to be on the league .. Looking at you panthers ..

Some of them do ! That's why I think the NHL should adopt the way NFL pays their players . If a player has a career year then gets a big deal, & then doesn't perform to the level of pay the owners can just cut him loose . It would definitely boost the level of play for the fans, & might make the game more appealing to casual fans . It would also be a benefit for the players because, they could then become an UFA after being cut from a team ! I'm not saying this to be a TURD but, if anyone has better suggestions please post them ! Lord knows us fans, probably have better ideas that could help move this process along quicker than the NHL, & NHLPA are doing !

The average 2-week salary before deductions for an NFL player making $900,000 a year is $34,615. Now add agents fee, state taxes and fees and federal taxes, the income becomes $17, 654. Now you also have to deal with friends trying to take advantage of you and family and friends coming out of the woodwork asking for handouts. NHL players often do not get college educations so they are not business savvy. You got people asking you to invest in their crappy business. A majority of pro athletes go bankrupt within the first 5 years after retirement and not just because they are the stereotypical gang bangers who buy 5 houses, 7 ferraris, and have 7 kids with 6 women. Only about 10-15% of an nhl team has players making over $1.5M. I absolutely loathe this lockout. But you have to look at it from both sides. If I'm an Owner and I look myself in the mirror, I'm thinking, well I'm an asshole. But I have to be an asshole because you will rarely succeed in business if you're never a dick or a hardass. If I'm a player I'm not playing because the owners aren't being reasonable. It's not about the millionaires. It's about the guys whose salaries say $1.5M or less who really probably take home enough to be considered in the upper middle class bracket.

The current deal calls for them to get a percentage of hockey related income. NOT the amount on their contracts. They are guranteed 57% in the last CBA. If the league makes more, they make more. If it makes less, they make less.

The "they should honor what they said" only is valid if you don't understand the old (or ALL proposals of the new) CBA

"What is the players did that? Sign a huge contract and just play like crap?"

Then they would still get paid. It happens all the time. When was the last time DiPietro missed a check

Your example are horrible. Why isn't it

"Well, we know you guys are going to ask for rollbacks, so we want the biggest bonuses in history to ensure we get that money, this way we are protected against rollbacks"
(A couple months later)
"Hey, you want me to take a rollback? This is ridiculus, I never saw this coming!!"

As long as the players pay for a percentage of the NHL's income, and NOT the amount on their contract (because that is the case now, a 10 mil contract just gives you a certain % of the players chunk, not 10 mil unless the league makes EXACTLY what they projected), they shut up and realize that no business in the history of the world has survived paying 60% to employees (I'm assuming non-playing employees, coaches, trainers, doctors, scouts, front office, public relations, etc etc make 3%), and they won't now.

They don’t care about the fans. They’ll start caring when they have settled. Until then, they are looking out for their best interest. Players have already lost over $350 million in salaries that they will never never see. Owners have lost as well, but they will be around much longer than the players giving them more time to make up for lost revenues. The players are better off taking a hit now, as opposed to waiting any longer. Ultimately, they will end up loosing more and more with each passing week. The band of players realizing this will grow bigger and bigger by the day and they ultimately will put pressure on the PA to make a deal. Hockey will be here, and I’ll be watching live and on TV. NHL package and all. I have to admit that initially I was posting that we should strikekf they locked us out, but eventually understood the business side.
