Here's a fan plan to teach them a lesson:

1. For every game that we miss this year, stay away next year. If 82 games are lost, than they will be playing to empty arenas for 2013-14.

2. Give some some of the money you would have spent on tickets, hot dogs, beer, jerseys, programs, etc. to charity. Get a receipt.

3. Send a copy of the receipt to Donald and Gary. Using a red Sharpie marker, write "This would have been spent on hockey. Too bad for you."

Enjoy the warm glow of helping the needy while sticking it to the greedmeisters of the NHL. They need us more than we need them.

It amazes me how many of you are so naive saying this is all the owners fault. Let's not forget who's sitting across the owners is Donald Fehr, who we all know is a hard line negotiator.

But don't forget Donald Fehr wants to turn the NHL into the MLB, that has no salary cap (which he negotiated back in 1994). Since then, you need to have a top 10 payroll to have any chance of winning the World Series. Only 6 teams out of the top 10 payrolls have won the World Series and all but 1 were in the top half of baseball payrolls.

2012 San Francisco (8th highest)
2011 St. Louis (11th)
2010 San Francisco (9th)
2009 NY Yankees (1st)
2008 Philadelphia (12th)
2007 Boston (2nd)
2006 St. Louis (11th)
2005 Chicago White Sox (13th)
2004 Boston (2nd)
2003 Florida (25th)
2002 Anaheim (15th)
2001 Arizona (8th)
2000 NY Yankees (1st)
1999 NY Yankees (1st)
1998 NY Yankees (2nd)
1997 Florida (7th)
1996 NY Yankees (1st)
1995 Atlanta (3rd)

Okay, so you think a luxury tax system works? Which Fehr said was an option. Here is the NBA Champions since 1984, that's 28 seasons if your scoring at home.
1. Lakers 8 (1985, 87, 88, 00, 01, 02, 09, 10)
2. Chicago 6 (1991, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98)
3. San Antonio 4 (1999, 03, 05, 07)
4. Boston 3 (1984, 86, 08)
5. Detroit 3 (1989, 90, 04)
6. Houston 2 (1994, 95)
7. Miami 2 (2006, 12)
8. Dallas 1 (2011)

Oh and 13 of the 28 teams that lost the NBA Finals are on that list of 8 teams who won.

At least the NFL, that has a hard salary cap (which was just negotiated last season and players and owners split 50:50 and missed 1 meaningless preseason game has it right. On average 6 of the 12 teams that make the playoffs one year, make it back next year. When the NBA has had only 8 different champions since 1984, the NFL has had 15 different champions.

Since the last lockout 7 season ago, we have had 7 different winners, and only Pittsburgh and Detroit have been to the Finals twice each, playing each other ironically in back to back years).

So when your bashing the owners and are on Fehr ruining your favorite sport, just remember if Fehr gets his way, your going to have teams that will zero chance of winning the Stanley Cup on opening night.

Fans, this is NOT a PR move. Think about it. GB gave Jamison another extension for the purchase of the Coyotes, which should align with the start of the season. The NHL lockout is following the same script as the one played out in the NBA . Why would either want to cancel the season?

See Wikipedia.
The owners began the work stoppage upon expiration of the 2005 collective bargaining agreement (CBA). The 161-day lockout began on July 1, 2011 and ended on December 8, 2011. It delayed the start of the 2011–12 regular season from November 1 to December 25, and it reduced the regular season from 82 to 66 games
