1. For every game that we miss this year, stay away next year. If 82 games are lost, than they will be playing to empty arenas for 2013-14.

2. Give some some of the money you would have spent on tickets, hot dogs, beer, jerseys, programs, etc. to charity. Get a receipt.

3. Send a copy of the receipt to Donald and Gary. Using a red Sharpie marker, write “This would have been spent on hockey. Too bad for you.”

Enjoy the warm glow of helping the needy while sticking it to the greedmeisters of the NHL. They need us more than we need them.

But don’t forget Donald Fehr wants to turn the NHL into the MLB, that has no salary cap (which he negotiated back in 1994). Since then, you need to have a top 10 payroll to have any chance of winning the World Series. Only 6 teams out of the top 10 payrolls have won the World Series and all but 1 were in the top half of baseball payrolls.

At least the NFL, that has a hard salary cap (which was just negotiated last season and players and owners split 50:50 and missed 1 meaningless preseason game has it right. On average 6 of the 12 teams that make the playoffs one year, make it back next year. When the NBA has had only 8 different champions since 1984, the NFL has had 15 different champions.

Since the last lockout 7 season ago, we have had 7 different winners, and only Pittsburgh and Detroit have been to the Finals twice each, playing each other ironically in back to back years).

So when your bashing the owners and are on Fehr ruining your favorite sport, just remember if Fehr gets his way, your going to have teams that will zero chance of winning the Stanley Cup on opening night.

Fans, this is NOT a PR move. Think about it. GB gave Jamison another extension for the purchase of the Coyotes, which should align with the start of the season. The NHL lockout is following the same script as the one played out in the NBA . Why would either want to cancel the season?
