Leafs’ MacArthur signs in German second division

Clarke MacArthur

Undeterred after losing the services of Chris Stewart and Wayne Simmonds, Bundesliga club ETC Crimmitschau has secured the services of another locked-out NHLer by signing Toronto’s Clarke MacArthur.

MacArthur, 27, has spent the last two seasons with the Leafs after breaking in with Buffalo in 2006 (oh yeah, there was also a brief 21-game sojourn with the Atlanta Thrashers in there.)

The left winger posted career-highs with Toronto in 2010-11, appearing in all 82 games while registering 21G-41A-62PTS, finishing second on the team in scoring.

Last year, MacArthur’s point production dropped off (to 43), but he still managed his second consecutive 20-goal campaign.

With the move, MacArthur becomes the third Maple Leaf to sign overseas during the work stoppage, joining fellow forwards Nikolai Kulemin and Mikhail Grabovski, who both signed in the KHL.

On Monday, Crimmitschau saw both Stewart and Simmonds leave the team to sign with Czech Extraliga squad HC Liberec.
