I don't believe there is a "make or break" point for the NHL. It appears they have already pissed away five years of growth by alienating all but hardcore coming-back-to-give-you-more-of-my-money-as-soon-as-you-decide-to-play fans. This is more of a slow-motion train wreck with each car in the consist slowing going over the side of a bridge. Each lost day sees another car in the drink.

And now they are risking an entire season by squabbling over how to divvy up their fat pie. I have no hard evidence other than anecdotal stories both on here and in real life, but I'd say there are likely many thousands of people who've turned away from the NHL and are spending their entertainment money in other places. Whether they return their attention to the NHL remains to be seen.

In conversations this past week with two friends in L.A., I asked about their previous plans to buy Kings season tickets. Both have now committed those funds to other, non-hockey, expenses. Neither has decided whether or not they are going to buy individual game tickets if/when the season starts, but neither one is making any changes to their schedules to accommodate any games.

You are one of the many that are hurt by all of this, and I am sure it is so comforting for you to hear from the players and league representatives that they are so concerned about you and your job.

As I have said before, if they were indeed so concerned about people like you, then why not meet continuously without breaks in order to get a deal done? Both the players and the league are talking out of their ass.

Because to be perfectly honest, they couldn't care less about you. That is very obvious by their lack of action.

The season is not in jeopardy yet. I believe the milestone that will make or break the season is the Winter Classic. There is a lot of money to be made with this game, so canceling it will result in a major loss of revenue. In other words, they will try to save it. If it goes, then might as well can the whole season.

Crucial week will be that one where they will need to decide to cancel the Winter Classic. And that week will come somewhere in November, if they cancel it then there will not be a season.

The 82 game-season will be in doubt but not the entire season. Obviously, things can happen pretty quickly because they want to start the season two weeks from now, yet nothing has been agreed upon to this point. It's just proof that things can take shape really fast once a deal is reached. Whose to say a deal isn't reached on Dec.1, for example? They would be playing games by the middle of the month, the winter classic would be on, etc. The entire season isn't in jeopardy until at least December.
