Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em: NHL-NHLPA meeting delayed

Oct 18, 2012, 1:26 PM EDT

Fehr and players

For those hockey fans holding their breath in anticipation of the NHLPA’s response to the NHL, try not to pass out, because today’s meeting has been pushed back until 2:30 p.m. ET at the earliest.

According ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun, the union had a conference call with its executive board and negotiating committee, causing the delay.

The players are still expected to present an offer today, reports Chris Johnston of the Canadian Press.

Is that a good sign or a bad one, hard to tell. I just hope the players pick up on the momentum and get this deal done. I don’t want to find out that this was all garbage and if this goes bad who knows when we will have hockey again.

I agree, hard to tell one way or another. Maybe the NHLPA is contemplating signing the deal? Or possibly contemplating handing over their deal that could screw over everything the past couple days have built up. Really hard to tell and making me one nervous man.

    Which comment sounds better?

    1. Procrastinate now. Why wait.

    2. Take your time, no need to hurry

    3. More and more fans are tuning out the NHL everyday

    4. Git-R-Done

    5. The waiting is the hardest part.

    6. Lets keep trading proposals instead of coming to an agreement

According to a lately report, the players did not come ONCE on time to a negotiation meeting. Says a lot about their respect towards their feeding hands and “we just want to play”.

And Bettman waited until a week before a deal has to be signed, sealed and delivered to preserve an 82 game season before he tendered the first serious offer of these negotiations.

The fact is the leaders on either side of the table are notorious for their brinksmanship and each are trying to pressure the other by letting things run right down to the wire.

Who cares whether they are off by 2 or 3 hours. This is meaningless in the grand scheme of the process. Chill folks! Due process must take its course.
