Not sure if that will scuttle the deal though. The players were adamant about not giving any kickbacks. If they keep that aspect of this new offer, they may be able to negotiate further and get the deal done.

Der Fuhrer and his lieutenants are painted into a corner and the “miserable” month of October is now done away with for good. Nonetheless, despite the brilliance of this conniving yet “convincing” charade, I implore you to think “beyond” the now and realize that hockey will never flourish where the sun shines. Your going to extraordinary lengths to defend the likes of Phoenix, Florida and Nashville, is akin to one who rallies in defense of his sand castle at the beach before an incoming tide. You’re a brilliant man sir, a passionate fan of the game and no doubt, you “do” have a vision. But please take the opportunity of this moment, to re-calibrate your vision to a more “truer” and more “meaningful” direction for our game.

When Bettman says he doesn’t negotiate in public and then publicly proceeds to point out some of the positives of the offer makes me wonder what is in there that he doesn’t want publicized. somehow I doubt fan backlash is the motivation.
