Florida’s Skille off to Norwegian league

Jack Skille

With locked-out NHLers signing all over Europe, it seemed like a matter of time before someone signed in Norway -- and it happened on Thursday, in the form of Florida Panthers forward Jack Skille.

Skille, 25, has agreed to play for Rosenborg Ishockeyklubb Elite of the GET-ligaen, Norway’s top tier league. He’s believed to be the first NHLer to join the Norwegian league since the start of the lockout.

Taken 7th overall by Chicago at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Skille has been plagued by injury since Florida acquired him from the ‘Hawks in Feb. 2011.

Ankle and shoulder ailments have limited him to just 59 games in a Panthers uniform -- last year, the ankle issue cost him the final 15 regular-season contests and all of Florida’s opening round playoff loss to the Devils.

Skille has one season left on a two-year, $1.65 million deal with Florida, signed shortly after being acquired from the ‘Hawks.
