It is a big business in which the athletes are paid with “scholarships” but where the biggest stars in the biggest sports are rarely scholars. The rule book is hundreds of pages of responses to the countless ways local “boosters” try to supplement the stars’ “scholarships” to keep them on the local team. Big schools have to hire lawyers to try to understand what the countless rules say and how to get around them. A total farce.
