He was the best ever, but you got the chronology all wrong. Hasek won the Cup in ’02, and THEN CuJo came along…. And when we won it again in ’08, it was Ozzy that was the starter.

And by saying that, I’m not trying to take anything away from Hasek. Amazing goalie, and one of the best of all time. Just my point of view as a Blackhawks fan. People see that the Hawks traded him earlier in his career and inevitably say what a mistake it was. There’s more to it than that.

People always talk about what a mistake it was for the Hawks to let Hasek go, but remember that at the time, Ed Belfour was just coming off of his second full season. Belfour won the Calder and Vezina in his rookie year, and IMO was as good as Hasek. That anyone would suggest dumping Belfour in favor of a guy who, up until that point, had spent the majority of his career in Indianapolis, are looking back with 20/20 vision. Even then, I’d still take Belfour.

Greatest goalie ever, no doubt. 6 vezinas in 7 years, 2 MVP’s, finished up what Cujo couldn’t do in Detroit and won a cup. Best ever.

Great goalie in his day and I have lots of respect for him.

Wouldn’t take away his desire and right to try… but everyone needs to take a realistic view of themselves. Seriously, who hires an almost 50 year old player, let alone goalie, where reflexes and top-form agility are paramount.

Dom – better to be remembered for being great, then force a final memory of failure.

I know he didn’t get any offers, but this whole lock-out mess could’ve limited the number of offers he would have received. Couldn’t he have waited until it was over? I was getting excited that there was a real possibility that he’d come back…maybe start a couple of preseason games (if we even get any hockey this year) and maybe playing back-up or AHL until there’s an injury, or Toronto needed a goalie. There was a real opportunity to see him play!!
