They can’t give in right now. The offer that the owners have tabled is complete garbage for them. If the owners give in a little bit this thing might just get done (I hope)

so how is that diffrent from 6 months ago?

We all knew the owners could hold out, and don’t care about a PR hit, this is not news. Proof was not required, we ahve it from every other work stoppage in every other sport since the 80′s

I wouldn’t bank too heavily on thinking the owners control the process. Maybe a small collective of them, but it seems Bettman has very much consolidated power and that the owners have acquiesced because, despite how much we all hate him, he is constantly bailing owners out on their BS. He sort of is like the guy who takes emergency powers in a crisis, but won’t give them up.

Still, while in the short run people can be happy about the idea that the players seem to think they’ll have to give in so we’ll get hockey back sooner, I don’t find this that encouraging. Just proves the owners can lock out the players, endure the hatred, and know once games start being cancelled the players will cave. This only encourages future lockouts.

Just for the idiot from that last story that claimed to “work in collective bargaining for years” and also that “Bettman tells the owners what to do”, read the quote above. “I’m sure the OWNERS (plural) know what their bottom percentage is, and I’m sure Fehr knows what going to be a good one for us”

Most players have no idea, they are doing “what Fehr tells them to do”, while the owners, tell Bettman what they want done

2/3 of team losing money….players audit 12+ teams a year….they know this….of course they have to give in. Why wait?
