@stakex – Also there have been more proposals too….that is if you call what the owners submitted proposals….I think I’d have to call them more like demands than anything else, but there were more of them none the less…And unfortunately we will have to wait and see the outcome since that is not a FACT yet either…..The only FACT here is that us as fans and the innocent people who depend on the NHL running are the losers in this….

Since a good number of players already signed up in Europe to play, w/c kinda’sorta shows they already lost faith in this fiasco, proves to show that the season is pretty much gone if not so much yet at this point. Its definitely not gonna be a fun and exciting holiday season for hockey fans.

MYTH: Somehow Gary Bettman wants a lockout, or that hes running this show. In reality he has 30 bosses he has to answer to, and is more a figure head then anything.

How many of those owners do you think Bettman has to have on his side if he wants to lockout the players in order to win?

8. If Bettman decides he wants to lock out the players because its the best way to get a favorable deal, he needs 8 owners to vote for him. It takes 2/3 of the leagues owners to over rule the commish.

Like it or not, Bettman is running the show with a select few owners. Also why it was unanimous. Once it was clear that Bettman had the eight votes, there would be absolutely nothing to gain by voting against it. All you would gain is losing any chance of getting a league event or favorable action for your team.

That statement shows you have no idea what the hell is going on. or how the world works.

FACT: The owners have made two offers, their second of which was a leap towards middle ground even if it still wasn’t a great offer. Thats how negotiations work though.

FACT: The players have made one offer, and have refused to make another for some reason. You know who loses when one side says “This is my first offer… we can talk again when you are ready to accept it”? The fans.

FACT: The owners are going to win this battle, and thats a fact that players (and fans) have to accept. They hold all the keys and can most certainly outlast the players.

FACT: So long as the players continue to play hardball, nothing is going to get done.

Saying this was the owners choice is simple minded. Sure, they are the one who locked the players out… but no professional sports league is going to play without a CBA in place. Thats just how it is. So the players acting like somehow the owners did something drastic and uncalled for is laughable.

No matter what side you agree with, and I do lean to the players, it hasn’t been the owners playing hardball and refusing to deal. Its the players. They won’t come off their first offer which the league has said it will not accept. Thats the problem right now.

I haven’t seen a strong willingness to sit down and negotiate from the players either. Its just one stupid game of chicken and neither side wants to back down.

I don’t know why they can’t just say- “Here’s what we disagree on. Here’s what you want, here’s what I want, let’s sit the FK down in a room with a willingness to compromise and negotiate until we get something worked out.”

I have speculated since the start of the lockout that the first half of the season will be cancelled and the start will be the Winter Classic against two Original Six teams. The fans will be relieved the season is saved, the players get the holidays with their families, and the NHL can pimp their wares and hype the season like a COD launch. Makes sense to me at least….

I have no sympathy left for either side in this fight. Go ahead and cancel the whole season. If the two sides were really interested in getting a deal done, they would meet more often than 2-3 times a week.
