Good to see the organization yet again taking care of it’s own, always seemed like Cloutier was clearly well liked and Gad know’s he’s been through enough to have some perspective to pass on to younger ‘tenders.

Having said that … my youth dies a litte more each time I see that video so I’d be super happy if ya never posted that again. Thanks.

Touche. I can respect that. Still don’t think 3 cups would have happened with any goalie, but we would have been a lot scarier with a top end goalie and potentially have a ring to show for it. Agreed though, Cloutier was an Achilles Heel and drove me nuts more often than he made me happy.

Let us then “agree” to disagree …

Friend, I’ve watched the Canucks more than any other team in the history of human hockey … even more than my own beloved LA Kings ! I Blomfeld was there @ GM Place in the spring of ’03 right at ice level … and what transpired due to this man, was even more tragic than HMS Hood trying to go at Bismarck from a right angle (ie: a forward approach negates the opportunity of bringing a full broadside to bear). Had Luongo been here instead of Florida, then “sure as there’ll be a sunrise tomorrow”, the Canucks would have taken care of business ! Look, you sound like a knowledgeable fan and so you would understand that Cloutier was an Achilles Heel which constantly played on the mind of the team as a whole. Of course there were other considerations, but I would beg you to consider that Cloutier was the “common denominator” in all of them. God speed to you and the Canucks all the same …

The sole reason they didn’t win 3 straight cups? You lost me at 3 straight cups. We had good teams, and a better goalie would have certainly helped our cause, but he wasn’t the sole reason for not winning 3 straight cups. A lot of stuff weighed into eventually losing to the Wings in 2002, not just the bad goal. 2003, yeah he sucked. We had the Wild beat, but that was a heart filled team who had the perfect style to give teams fits in the playoffs and they did just that to Vancouver and Colorado. 2004 I was excited for and probably our best chance in that era, but Cloutier was playing really well vs Calgary before suffering an injury and not being able to return. 2004 was essentially Auld in net, so tough to blame Cloutier for not winning that year because he got injured. Winning 3 straight cups is a ridiculous task and I don’t think a better goalie would have made any difference. There is no way the Canucks were going to win 3 straight cups in that time. Last team to win 3 straight….. Islanders. I have a really hard time looking back on those days and thinking Cloutier was the only thing holding them back from being legends.

It’s a Shame …

A helluva nice person, always liked in the community here and yet … he’s the sole reason why the Canucks didn’t win three Stanley Cups in a row from 02-04 … now I’m not exactly the biggest Luongo fan going … but I will say that had he been here during that span, well, the rest would be history … anyway, God does act in mysterious ways at times and so perhaps Cloutier will now get his chance at redemption here after all ? … I wish the man well …

He’d be much better as a fighting consultant than a goaltending consultant. I’m sure he could give Alex Burrows and the Sedins a few fighting tips.
