Why wait until Friday???????????????????????? Get the Dam deal done now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fire Bettman!!!! and Daly is just a puppet of Bettman. therefore if you fire Bettman his right hand man must go as well. This whole dam thing is ridiculous!!!!!! Guess I’ll watch college hockey this season instead of my beloved NHL NBC Sportsnet coverage starts with ND vs Miami on 10/12. I thought they had a season opening game on 10/6 but maybe I was wrong. Just get the GD deal done

So here is what I’m thinking:

First off, the core economic issues are not being discussed because both sides are waiting for the other to come forth with a new proposal. Instead of playing a dumb game of chicken, I say both sides should agree on a specified date and time at which they meet and BOTH sides present a new proposal at said time and go from there to kick start the process.

If that doesn’t work for anyone, my other thought is that a third party, unbiased arbitrator should be brought in (perhaps even someone who doesn’t really know/follow hockey). The arbitrator should be presented with: 1) all the economic information that they need to see (plus whatever else information they may need), 2) What issues exist in the league that need to be fixed, and 3) what each side is looking for in a new deal and what they are willing to give up. Provided with all this information, the third party arbitrator creates a deal that addresses/incorporates the previously stated things, and that becomes the new CBA.

A fantasy I know, but one can dream, right?

Not sure, but that may be part of the mentioned “management rights”. Basically, the NHL doesn’t want to have to go through the NHLPA to be able to make those kind of changes if they deem them necessary. I’m sure that is on the plate of discussions.

Useless meeting. While the non-core economic things are important, they don’t mean much without any sort of agreement in terms of core economic issues because these are the issues that are more easily negotiable AFTER the core economic things are figured out. Meaning, whoever gets what they’d term the better end of the deal in regards to core economics, they’d be more likely to give in this area, until then, why not ask for the moon and continue to piss each other off?

The meeting is about the “other stuff” and not about the economics so I wouldn’t get your hopes up too much yet. Yeah there are things like realignment and discipline and stuff that do need to get worked out but without the HRR nothing will get done. They could have ALL the other stuff done and it wouldn’t matter without the HRR divided up.
