Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds and Blues forward Chris Stewart are long time friends and now they’ll suit up together in Europe.

Andy Strickland of True Hockey first reported the long time pals signed with Eispiraten Crimmitschau in the German second league.

Their choice of playing together makes for a nice story, but they’re not playing in the best of leagues. Having two top NHL stars playing in something that’s a virtual beer league should give Eispiraten a distinct advantage. Then again, if you’re going to play in a glorified beer league, doing it in Germany gets you some premium suds.

Chris won’t be the only Stewart headed to Europe as his brother Anthony is headed across the ocean as well, except he’ll be playing in England for the Nottingham Panthers of the British league.
