Well the arena is paid for, seats something like 6k+ people and can be used for concerts and other events. Based on how that school follows their other sports, hockey should be a revenue generator for them.

Considering all the initial costs have already been funded I imagine this is a fiscal plus for them.

I suspect 2 of these 3 – Indiana Illinois and Iowa – will at some point add hockey.

As for rivalry’s, I hope the Buckeyes continue a home and home with Miami.

Penn State hockey has absolutely no issue with funding. The owner of the Sabres has already given $102 million specifically for the men and womens team and arena.

Looking at this poll, it’s really too bad the WCHA is basically dissolving after this season. While it’s great the Big 10 will have a hockey conference, but when half of the teams in the conference field a hockey team, it’s pretty upsetting. One of those teams is basically in NHL terms is an expansion team (Penn State), which I’m already beginning to wonder if they can, since they have this little financial problem to deal with. Until at least 2 more schools (Nebraska, Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, and Iowa) field a team, it shouldn’t even be a hockey conference. It’s cool 2 of the top 3 are in that conference and 3 of the top 15, in any other sport woud be great. But not hockey.

I would much rather have Minnesota play #4 North Dakota, #8 Denver, #12 Minnesota-Duluth, and #15 Wisconsin 4 times a season each. Plus keep the in-state rivalries with Minnesota-Duluth, St. Cloud State, Bemidji State, and Minnesota State-Mankato.
