Kesler’s agent calls diving accusations a joke (Update: No, he didn’t)

Sep 21, 2012, 12:49 PM EDT

Once again Ryan Kesler’s agent is rushing to his defense, this time after his client was identified as a diver in a TSN report.

This isn’t the first time Overhardt has defended Kesler publicly.

In May, Canucks coach Alain Vigneault opined that Kesler’s shoulder injury had nothing to do with the center’s fall-off in production last season compared to the previous one. To which Overhardt said Vigneault “must have fallen off a turnip truck.”

In August, Vancouver GM Mike Gillis stated during a radio interview that Kesler was ahead of schedule in his recovery from shoulder surgery. To which Overhardt said: “[Kesler’s] not ahead of schedule and there’s no rushing him back.”

All three incidents, if you want to call them that, are unrelated, but you have to wonder if Kesler’s feeling a little bit picked on these days.

On Thursday, Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa – who was part of the panel that met in August to discuss issues like embellishment – said he didn’t know why Kesler’s name appeared in the TSN report.

“It’s something we discussed,” Bieksa told The Province. “But we never came up with a list of names.

“I don’t know who is the one coming up with these names.

“We weren’t picking on anyone. We were just in general talking about what we wanted to do.”

All the same, Overhardt probably didn’t think much of the report.

As a Canucks fan who watches 82 plus Canucks games every season, and really likes Kesler……… His agent should just shut up. You dive, Kesler. And you look to the refs for a call way too often instead of just getting back into the play. When you’re whistle to whistle playing hockey and skating hard, no one can knock your game, but too often you’re looking to the refs for a call, who now hate you and will never give you a call. Just shut up and play hockey.

I couldn’t agree more.. I love watching Kes when he is skating hard and playing his game, but all the extra-curricular crap he pulled last post-season was a joke.

Part of the problem then is that those who are guilty refuse to see why…instead, they’re just shocked they were included on the list. Just don’t embellish…whether you feel like you’re being infringed upon or not. A lot of these players feel like they’re being ‘hooked’ or whatever…so in order to bring attention to what they feel like is a penalty, they dive or throw their hands up. As they see it, they were in the right. I have always been for calling both in that situation. Call the hook, but call the embellishment, too. They never do though..

Bieksa and other Canucks players should just shut up about it. Of course you will defend him because he is your teammate but at the same time, everyone who watches the NHL are well aware that he is a diver.

Bieksa, along with Bettman should realise that fans aren’t just blind idiots.

I think his agent gets paid by the lie.

“and from the Russian judge … 9.8”

The funniest one had to be the PHT picture of Kessler in game 4 against the Kings, where Mitchell and Martinez were standing off to one side laughing at the spectacle of Kessler doing his best to impersonate someone being shot ! Kessler is a “bona-fide” diver, no two ways about it. And that’s unfortunate, as he is one of the Canuck’s best overall players, night in and night out.

It’s said 20 times on this page so I couldn’t let it slide…KESLER, not KESSLER. Have a pleasant day.
