Im not on either side but i think the players will not win their fight the owners have all the money and now see players jettison for less money overseas that gives them all the more reason to offer them less if they are willing to play for less overseas why not play for less in nhl sometimes less is more

You don’t get it because you’re not looking at this right.

Hes playing for less money right now because hes getting paid absolutely nothing in the NHL, and this will only be for at most one season.

Just so you know, the $3 million less he will make playing in the KHL this year is pretty small compared to the amount of money the NHL wants to roll back on his contract. So if the players win this fight, Ovechkin will have saved a lot more money in the long run.

Not to mention I don’t think you lose a year off your contract during a lockout. So Ovechkin (and all the players) are just making extra money right now while they wait for the new CBA… not taking less.

Not everyone in the NHL makes as much as him so 65% of that is still bank for Alex but you do make a good overall point that these guys are basically all taking pay cuts to go play overseas instead of taking pay cuts to play in the NHL.
