It’s pure “idiocy” to contemplate whether or not Crosby plays in the KHL, as such an adventure would make about as much sense as OJ starting up a “marriage reconciliation” service ! The bottom line is that unlike you or me, Crosby and his handlers know “exactly” when the 2012-2013 season will commence (ie: US Thanksgiving Day weekend). We must never forget that “they’re the shepherds and we’re the sheep”. It’s always worked that way and it always will. At any rate, had he gone it sure would have been funny to hear about the fool getting roughed up by some “unknowing” Russian security detail !

1. It would almost certainly be very expensive to insure his NHL contract. Don’t forget, players hurt while playing in Europe/KHL during the lockout can be suspended without pay from their teams once the lockout ends if they are not healthy. Thus players will buy insurence against their NHL deal so they still get paid, but its not cheap. Even for a healthy player with no injury history its quite expensive to insure a contract… now imagine a player with a HUGE contract and a very troubled history of concussions. It might actually be hard for Crosby to even get insurence on his NHL deal if he goes to the KHL, and at the very least it will come at a big price.

2. Crosby might be a little concerned playing in the KHL, especially with his concussion issues. Lets be honest here…. Crosby is protected like there is no tomorrow in the NHL. You get near him, its a penelty. He would have no such protection in the NHL, and its quite possible things would work the other way around. Afterall, what incentive does the KHL have to protect one of the biggest stars from the NHL? Absolutely none.

Not to mention its not hard to see players in the KHL taking a run at Crosby, including current NHL players. Again time to be honest…. Crosby isn’t very well liked among other players. I’m not sure how much punishment the NHL could hand out for cheap shots thrown in the KHL, if any at all, but it would not shock me to see Crosby be head hunted playing in a league thats not very protective of him.

3. Aside from someone taking a run at Crosby, there is simply the injury question. His job is in the NHL, and if he gets hurt playing there… so be it. However does Crosby really want to head to the KHL and end up getting hurt playing over there? I’m going to bet no.
