In late August, IIHF communications director Szymon Szemberg reported the Swedish Elite League wouldn’t be accepting locked-out NHLers.

That doesn’t appear to be the case for Sweden’s second division, HockeyAllsvenskan.

According to various reports, St. Louis Blues forward Patrik Berglund has signed on with second-tier club Vasteras, the team he represented at both the junior and senior levels before coming to North America.

While the elite league is reportedly re-thinking its decision on locked-out NHLers, the Allsvenskan is making waves by targeting big name players. Yesterday, news broke that Mora IK was courting LA Kings forward Anze Kopitar, going so far as to ask for donations to cover insurance costs.

Meanwhile, San Jose Sharks defenseman Douglas Murray told the Mercury News that he’s in discussions with Djugardens about coming on board.

Djugardens is one of the most storied franchises in Sweden, having won 16 elite league titles, but suffered a major blow last season with a 15-23-17 finish that saw them get relegated to the Allsvenskan.
