The NHL can say what ever it wants but the mesage they are sending to their fans is that they don’t care about them. Right now the NHL is treating their fans like horse manure.

“Your” L.A. Kings also have/had Jeff Carter on the team before the owners and players got into a “mine’s bigger than yours” fiasco and decided to lock themselves out of their own profession.. So have fun with that tool. He’s probably one of the main reasons owners are asking for so much after what he put Columbus through last season.. And Godspeed Richie, I still and will always miss you though.

Vindicatus – the meaning and “spirit” of your remarks are completely unclear to me ? … I will therefore retort as follows:

- our LA Kings are Stanley Cup Champions and the “best” team in the world today
- Roberto Luongo is now a $46 million dollar back-up goalie
- Gary Bettman could successfully star in a remake of “Willard” playing himself
- Parise & Suter are evidently worth more than at least 8 x NHL franchises ?
- the owners want this 2 x month long lockout so bad it “hurts” !

It’s not the owners, players or the fans that are hurt in all this. It’s the workers at the arenas that are hurt. who’s going to pay their bills while these guys argue over whether or not thousands of monies is good enough! I love hockey but two lockouts in less than ten years…Really guys?!

“Not one single thing is gained by this” ?

This refrain, or words to that effect, is repeated by many in their comments … and yet more wrong you people couldn’t be ! The fact of the matter is that for many owners, there’s “much” to be gained from this lockout. When you take the season in context, October and November are no doubt the two biggest “loss-making” months of all, where the majority of US based teams likely don’t even cover their “variable” costs (ie: player salaries, operational expenses, etc) let alone make a contribution towards “fixed” costs. And when that happens, basic economics will tell you that operations should and must cease immediately.

So while this lockout is upsetting for the many fans, it makes perfect sense for the ones who are pulling the strings … the team owners. And people should not lose sight of the fact that there are far more “loss-making” US owners than there are “profit-making” Canadian owners. I’m personally convinced that what’s unfolding now was furtively agreed upon way back at the start of the year. And I predict that the season will commence in either late November or early December … just in time for the Christmas retail season, when little Johnny & Janey demand their new $300 hockey jerseys.

Minor league hockey is great they treat fans the way they should be treated my grandson has dreams of playing NHL he does not understand and is confused about the whole thing. Pretty sad for greedy people to hurt kids

No Fans equals NO REVENUE, which means no salaries for the players. Who wins, NO ONE. Oh wait, the fans WIN, we save our hard earned money. Hmm, just saying. Tic, toc, that’s your NHL career passing you bye.

As fans, we need to call our TV subscription companies – Comcast, Directv, and Dish Network demanding a partially monthly refund for no NHL games on the NBC Sports Network.

This way the fans don’t get screwed by the players or by the owners.

This needs to STOP, the NHL fans are strike from the greedy millionaire players and the billionaire owners.

Both of you, are despicable. You should be a shame of yourselves. Did you think about the stadium vendors whose lives depend on the games?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again….

They aren’t getting new players…they aren’t getting new owners….they aren’t cancelling the NHL forever….

What exactly is gain from a plan that keeps the players away, loses money and makes them look dumb? The only plan should be to meet at least every other day with a mind towards intense negotiations and playing the games. Not one single thing is gained by this. NOTHING.

Neither side is begging to get back in the room and negotiate so I blame both sides. Act like grown ups for a couple days! Please!

At least they are honest about just being greedy. That last bit about the negotiations kills me though. The NHL is calling for sensible negotiation instead of rhetoric, but the NHL and NHLPA have met, what, 5 times? Both sides are more interested in grandstanding and rhetoric than in actually getting a deal done. They wanted a lockout from day 1.
