I wouldn't say all the players are greedy, they did give up a lot the last time around and have been willing to negotiate around HRR (getting closer to a 50/50 split). I'd say more that the top contracts of the last few years gives the appearance of them taking everything they can get, but most of the players aren't benefiting from those $100M contracts.

Is Webber worth nearly 22 times the salary of Jonathan Blum? Is Cal Clutterbuck worth 1/7th of Parise to the Wild? You end up with players like Gilbert Brule not being able to get contracts unless they take bare minimum because a majority of the cap dollars have gone to the high priced talent. It's not good for the union as a whole or the NHL.

Although the owners have all the, let's not forget that the players bring in the money. I think that if there is a lockout it could have long-term effects on prospects and players choosing to stay in their respective countries and give the NHL the bird. The league is just too unstable and leagues around the world are becoming more competitive in their offers to keep players either in their country or convince players to leave the NHL to go to Europe and Russia.. This isn't like the last lockout where the players had no where to go.

The funny thing about this lockout is that not too many people are blaming the players for being greedy. The world is officially upside down when Donald Fehr is not viewed as the bad guy and the owners are. I can't get too upset with Bettman. He's a pawn of the owners.
