The players know they aren't going to get that percentage again. But despite receiving 57% the players came out on the losing end of the last lockout... they missed an entire years salary, lost a year off their contracts (which ended some older players careers), and most importantly gave in to the hard salary cap. The players union was viewed as the bad guys in 04-05, but this time Bettman and the owners are definitely more of the villains than the players. This lockout is purely about greed. Sure, 57/43 is unfair but it was a system set-up by the owners. They agreed to the current CBA b/c it was supposed to guarantee cost certainty but they miscalculated the amount of revenue the league would garner over the last seven years. Now they feel that their entitled to a bigger piece of the pie than the players b/c they made a mistake and want to reverse it. 52/48 or even 50/50 would be a solid deal for both sides, but the owners are out to flip the script on the players and take home the 57% (or close to it) themselves. The NHL expects the union to give in to their demands, just like last time, and that's the problem. In his press conference yesterday, Bettman tried to play it off as if the league had made huge concessions in an attempt to meet in the middle with the union. But that really isn't the case. The league refuses to even think about the idea of revenue sharing b/c it's too much like socialism to the richest Republican owners. The players union isn't without fault, but they're the lesser of two evils. Just get to 52/48 or 50/50 already so I can see my Flyers!

How exactly are the Sixers overrated? Nobody picked them to win the finals! They are a young and up and coming team with great potential, but I haven't heard anyone go overboard about what they can do. I don't think you know what you are talking about,

As for the lockout, I'm buying the NBA package rather then the NHL package this year and probably several years in the future. If the NHL disrespects the fans again buy going into a 3rd lockout, I'm just not going to support then anymore. I'll watch the playoffs and that is about it, but I'm not going to games and I'm not ordering them either. They take the fans for granted and if more fans wouldn't go running back to the NHL like they do their cheating girlfriends then maybe they would avoid lockouts.

lol, thank god the Sixers did something to make them worth watching. They were relatively entertaining last year, but it's hard to invest much in a team that you know has no chance of really doing anything. Not just for the current year, but as currently constructed. will give me something to do (and hopefully a few weeks of Phils playoffs!) during the lockout

what happened to "we just wanna pay hockey"

I love how the players are cry about 7 years ago like the were robbed, and held at gun point. YOU ARE GETTING 57% of the income that the NHL produces. Not profits, income. Regardless of what you gave up last time, that is a ridiculous cut NOW. Who cares about 7 years ago?
