thats such an ignorant statement. Does everyone in the league make 6 million dollars? think of the players living on the league minimum. I know its alot of money still but when your only playing for 10 years? It’s a big deal no matter your salary to have it cut that substantially in 7 years. This isn’t about the megastar’s. This is about the journeyman. This is on Gary and the Owners. The players are being fair when it comes to business and the owners think they have a stranglehold on the situation. I think the owners come to there census in 2 weeks.

For the people that want to thumbs down my comment : it was meant to be a joke because he is the face of the league every where you turn you see his face next to something w/ an NHL LOGO ! That was the premise for not needing to AIM !

Sarcasm. Almost all franchises of the company are making money. So “asking” their “employees” to take a 24 percent ( I think that was the initial offer from the NHL ) pay cut was an insult. If my boss came to me and asked me to take a 25 per cent pay cut while his/her business is making profit I’d tell him/her to f*** off.

If it was a partnership, would it not be split 50-50 ? I do however agree with the last half of your comment, I would watch hockey played anywhere, & everywhere . Now if we can just find a way to get DIRECTV to broadcast hockey games from all over the world without having to watch NHL NETWORK that would be awesome !

I get where you’re going with your statement but, I wish people would quit using normal working class American, or Canadian salary in comparison to a professional athletes salary . It wouldn’t hurt them nearly as much to lose 7% as it would a normal working class American, or Canadian ! I’m not saying this to be a JERK , I’m saying this because it’s the TRUTH !

I hardly agree that going from 57% down to 52% is giving much ! Besides, wasn’t it the players calling the owners greedy for wanting the players to take 43% instead of 57% ? WHO IS GREEDY NOW ! I hate having to agree with the 1%ters but the absolute most either side should make from here to eternity is 50% ! So get a deal done w/ term limits, 50-50 split, extend entry level deals to 5years, abolish RFA so when a player comes of a ELC he is a UFA, then you won’t have to worry about salary arbitration . My point being just get something done already ! It makes me sick to listen to people that complain about money when they already have more than enough .

P.S : I would hope the NHL & NHLPA would like to apologize, or do something for all the workers in the stadiums, all the parking attendants, & whoever else will be affected by the impending lockout . But as they say : PEOPLE IN HELL WANT ICE WATER !

Yeah, ’cause everybody knows how hard it is to live on $5 million a year when you used to get $6 million a year. Please, there is no universe where an average schmoe’s take-home pay can possible be compared to a professional athlete’s multi-million dollar contract. Crosby sounds like he has just the attitude to become an owner himself.

riddle me this; what star player was drafted by pittsburgh and began consistently tearing up the league around “6 or 7″ years ago? oh maybe sidney crosby. secondly, he isnt to blame for inflated pro sports salaries. if someone wanted to offer you a contract for 8.7$ million dollars a year, then tell you that they actually werent going to pay you that amount what would you do? all he is saying here is that the players are willing to negotiate a deal that works for both sides, and the league is trying to strong arm them again like the did the last time. lastly, some people in this country dont dedicate themselves to brushing their teeth as much as he has dedicated himself to his profession,he has earned the right to express his dissatisfaction when someone sticks a mic in his face. and ill gladly listen.

Yeah. Logic. Works well when dealing with mechanical/technical problem. Doesn’t always get you what you want when dealing with human beings, and this applies to both players and owners. How would you react if were asked to take a reduction in salary because your employer wants to increase his bottom line after years of increased profits. I hate this situation and think we should boycott the league for at least a year if the season starts late.
