eh, it's easy to sympathize with the players, because you want to. The owners first offer was ridiculous, that is a given. The one they made less than a week later, was much more reasonable. The players on the other hand, fire back with "share more revenue". So in their minds, the fix is "all the owers make less money", what business would decide that is a good idea? Easy answer, none.

When players are above 55% income in any league, the system is broken. Players should not be getting half of income (not profits, income, huge difference), period. They do nothing but make money in the NHL, no financial risk for them whatsoever. Exactly the opposite. A player is probably making 10x (for a minimum player, more like 100x for a top player) than they would ever make doing anything else, and the only chance they have to lose money is their own bad decisions.

The fact that people think the owners should be willing to take losses every year for the honor of owning a NHL franchise is amazing to me. Is it the owers fault the system is as broken as it is? Yes, in large part, but the players have a large part too. When the system is broken, this is the time to fix it. I'm not surprised the people who are getting the better end of the deal now aren't happy about it.

NHL teams are a business like any other from the owners standpoint, and they will be treated as such. People don't spend hundreds of millions of dollars on teams so they can lost 10-15 every year, they do it to make money. The Cuban types that are doing it for their own ego reasons are few and far between.

I believe this is why I, along with loads of other people, are with the players. It's not really that the owners asked for more, but SO much more. I understand where both sides are coming from, but you have to be reasonable. I thought the player's offer was reasonable, while I couldn't say the same thing about the owner's proposal.

Doesn't matter though, at the end of the day they need to meet in the middle and get something done. Otherwise everybody is going to hurt...the owners, the players, and most importantly in my eyes...the fans.
