Anyone remember Brandon Dubinsky? NHL held out, eventually getting his money while pissing off Slats. Then Duby proceeded to have a horrible 2 years. Duby got paid too much, didn’t produce and put too much pressure on himself. When push came to shove…..he was ALWAYS one of “expendables”. MDZ, shouldn’t go down that road. Take the offer, and play better…..eventually he’ll get the big bucks……if he really gets his game to where it CAN be.

Some of the blame has to go to his agent…but it eventually trickles down to the player being the issue here. This kid has a solid work ethic and bright future in front of him…he needs to understand there’s a process to making the big money at his talent level. There have only been a few that get the big bucks coming out of their entry level deal…Michael, you’re not one of them.

A 22yo about to make 2.5M a year and he’s turning it down…what has this world come to?

I like Del Zotto but I believe Sather made a fair offer. Sather is doubling his entry level pay. Del Zotto is only 22. He's played three seasons. His first year was good on offense (37 points) but not so good on defense (his +/- was -20), second year blew (they had to send him down to Hartford), and he bounced back last year (41 points, +20). Still, he made some costly turnovers, particularly in the playoffs. I think they're offering him 2 years. If his play improves, he can always demand more then and play the market if they don't meet him. He has to know that the Rangers' farm system has plenty of defensive depth and Sather is already indicating that he can be replaced.

Great potential, but Sather is right. Trade his rights to Philly. They want to overpay everyone! Oh wait- they will just make a ridiculous offer sheet to him! Take the picks!
