2 years ago the sens spent near the salary cap and were terrible. The way I see it is they’re currently saving money for a few years down the road when they have to pay all their young players’ raises.

Maybe they did. They still made the playoffs as an 8th seed, like the Kings in the West, and took the Rangers to 7 games in the first round. Like revansrevenant already wrote you don’t need to spend that much money to be competitive. What’s the point of having a cap floor if some teams are losing money. Just let the teams determine how much they can afford to spend on players’ salaries.

Yes, but don’t think for a second that the team didn’t over achieve last season, even Bryan Murray was surprised. They didn’t build that team to make the playoffs but it happened and their coaching staff had a lot to do with that.

I’m pretty sure Ottawa made the playoffs last season. Toronto, Buffalo, Montreal didn’t. So, yes, the Senators are competitive.

You don’t need to spend a lot of money to be competitive. Just ask the Tampa Bay Rays(yes, I know, different sport).
