So, in the realm of negotiations they hold informal meetings to find common ground, and formal meetings to negotiate. I see. Were previous meetings this year between them formal or informal ?

To find common ground. No reason to hold formal negotiations until you can bridge the gap on the financials. Agree on a structure then negotiate off that.

I have no sympathy for the owners. They allowed Bettman to over expand the league into markets that would never turn profits and now that those teams are floundering owners want the players to shoulder the burden. Easy solution? Move two teams to Canada and contract two others. The nhlpa won’t like losing 50 jobs, but you wouldn’t have a lockout every six years. If the league plays to its strengths it’ll be fine. It’s strengths? Cold weather, northern cities.

Per Dan Rosen they have been meeting for 2 hours now and it’s still going on. Even if they are trying to figure out common ground that’s enough to get some proposals that they can agree on. Let’s hope.
