After reading some of these posts, I ask myself if anyone has really any idea of the lockout and who’s apart of it. Everyone should even get their hopes up 1 iodum

You have Don Fehr representing the players. The same guy who had baseball players strike and wipe out the World Series. To baseball’s credit, they haven’t had 1 work stoppage since. In the other corner, you have 30 owners, who have shown they are willing to lose an entire season.

Right now the gap is bigger than the Gulf of Mexico between Florida and Texas. Owners want them to go down to 43% of revenue. That’s from 57% now.

Then there are the secondary issues of realignment and the Olympics. Neither side will budge until the money is figured out.

Then you have big market owners vs small market owners.

There are issues beyond that as well. I’d start liking a new sport or start watching minors and amateurs.

Your wrong about the big 10 hockey league comin…..it will be great. So, if all you anti owners, pro union libs want me to invest my fortune into the game, but want to hold to getting “my fair share”. Move. I’d watch the NHL with the 2nd best players in the world.

Progress is not relected by both sides managing to behave like adults instead if stooping to petty insults and media manipulation. Meeting for longer than two hours, to me, would reflect progress. My opinion: the players cannot agree to rollbacks of any kind. If they do, they can expect to do so every time the CBA expires.

Billionaires are destroying everything??? Without those billionaires there is no hockey or jobs for that matter. I thought the ability to make that kind of money IS what makes this country great. Lay off the politics and stick to hockey gang!

The term that keeps getting thrown around here is “fair.” Who gets to decide what’s “fair” and what’s the criteria? “Fair” is a very subjective term, and yet people throw it around like everyone agrees with their definition, and furthermore people get deemed “unfair” and get ostracized and slandered because they don’t agree with it. The owners are the ones signing their players’ paychecks every week, and to keep paying people, you have to make money. You lose money, you lose jobs in the long run. Both sides need each other. It’s not just a ground-up, working-man socialist system. If both sides are working in good faith, they’ll get something done. It may take a bit of time but it’ll happen.

The one difference between the NHL (or any sports league ftm) and the auto industry or education is that the employees are also the product, and are incredibly specialized. Otherwise, yes, I’m sure the owners would carry a bit more weight and a deal may have come sooner. If you’re making buttloads of money from the Crosbys or Ovechkins of the league, you don’t want to really do anything that’s going to push them away. The owners don’t want these guys to bolt to the KHL or anywhere else, and so they can’t just do whatever they want.

Also, enjoy the last year of the UND vs UMN rivalry. It won’t be the same once the Big 10 league rolls around. Maybe this will also serve as an example of why one party shouldn’t always decide everything.

I could easily learn how to work in the auto industry, education and a lot of other unionized places in this country. If the auto industry had to fire everyone and start from scratch (assuming the workers they let go are low skilled), it would not effect them too much to hire new people because it is not something hard to teach. You go ahead and find me 30 teams worth of people who can play hockey at a high level then your point might make sense…

I’m pretty sure the NHLPA has the most up to date copy of that stuff. Maybe they’d like to share… Then again, probably some sort of NDA in place. Business folk really do not like having their information spewed all over the place. Makes it hard for them to overcharge.

So people shouldn’t be able to negotiate for better conditions? Just show up and do what your told is it? I’m pretty certain that’s not what made America great, I need fact being pushed around by the wealthier is what happens in the majority of third world countries. Unions built this country from the ground up, regardless of what you and the other rightist sheeple believe. It’s not about greed, it’s about a fair deal, the owners of any business are not the ones making the company money on a day to day basis, it’s the people who are putting in the work everyday.

Players are employed by owners. No different than most of America. This union stuff has nearly destroyed auto industry, education, and others. I’m with the owners, if players want more like the rest of us do, they are free to start thier own league, go to Russia and enjoy that 3rd world, or shut up and be happy the avg. player makes $600k playing a game. I’d settle for less super stars making 10 million a year and still love watching a bunch of ex college players playing hard and lovin it. I love the game and watching U No Dak vs Minnesota. Screw all the greed. Remember the golden rule, he who has the gold rules…..
