The NHL 12 soundtrack loaded up on hair metal (and Rob Halford), but next year’s edition hopes to capture what Steve Schnur calls “the new sound of hockey.”

What does that mean, exactly? Decipher that full meaning from the tracklisting (in alphabetical order).

  • Anti-Flag “Broken Bones”
  • Arkell “Whistleblower”
  • Band of Skulls “The Devil takes care of his own”
  • Bassnectar “Pennywise Tribute (feat. Pennywise)”
  • Battleme “Shoot the noise, man”
  • Classified “Run with me”
  • Foxy Shazam “I like it”
  • Gaslight Anthem “45”
  • Monster Truck “Seven seas blues”
  • My Darkest Days “Save yourself”
  • The Heavy “what makes a good man”
  • The Offspring “Days go by”
  • Shinedown “Bully”
  • Thousand Foot Krutch “Light up the sky”
  • Zombienation “Kernkraft 400 (Stadium chant mix)”

There’s a good number of artists that are over our heads there, so feel free to insert your timely and snarky/excited reactions to the list in the comments.

    No Sandstorm???

I’m guessing licensing cost was a factor this year. May as well have just went the Madden route & created their own original themes & background music instead of making it like a car ride with some tool & his iTunes playlist from Hell.

It would have been nice if they added all the goal songs from each team for when they scored. Shades of NHL 94…

  4. sjsharks66 - Sep 6, 2012 at 9:38 AM

    Weak list :(

  5. snipedanglecelly13 - Sep 6, 2012 at 9:46 AM

Lol they brought back anti flag, they were in 06 game

This is lame. Aside from Kernkraft and Pennywise, this reverses the nice trend EA had going of incorporating songs you actually hear at NHL arenas. Rights issues surely come into play, but why is it necessary to have a new collection of songs every year? Keep some of the good stuff!!

Every year I see the list and think, UGH, lame…. but each season I find myself strangely enjoying the soundtrack. I will just assume the same will happen again. It can’t always have my heavy metal favorites :)

The Heavy is so hit or miss. They can be highly obnoxious with stuff like “How Do You Like Me Now” or awesome like with “Short Change Hero”

And people always wonder why I import my own playlist into the game when I play. EA always picks terrible songs

and once again the ea NHL franchise has a terrible soundtrack

As long as the game play is good the music doesn’t matter.

The demo showed that they didn’t remove classic glitch goals, but I like that you can’t just stick handle through the other team with someone like Greg Parros… like in the last one.

I also think it is going to take the players that used R2 to push the puck a long time to get used to NOT hitting it. Holy cow was I a turnover machine in that first game…

EA Season Ticket was $25 to get to play the game for free 3 days before release… I’m doubting that I will be happy I made that purchase. $25 is a bit steep, I had thought that I could get three day trials of all the other EA games also, so I was going to try out NCAA, Madden, and Fifa… but apparently, you can only play them 3 days before their release. That kind of sucks….

The soundtrack always looks like crap at first glance, then two weeks later half the songs are on your iPod. I’ll withhold judgment.

    Mmmmmaybe I will and maybe I won’t! Maybe I do and maybe I don’t!

You better believe they’re comin’ for youuuuuuu!!

All the really needed to do was import Jock Jams volume 1 and things would have been good.

    The Darkest Days…save yourself?

Are we sure this isn’t “Save Yourself” from Stabbing Westward’s album “Darkest Days”??

    • James O'Brien - Sep 6, 2012 at 5:16 PM

You’d think so, but maybe it’s some kind of off-shoot. *shrugs*

    • jaybertx - Sep 6, 2012 at 7:19 PM

It’s actually a different song from the album “Sick and Twister Affair”.

  16. jaybertx - Sep 6, 2012 at 7:22 PM

I went ahead and put together a Spotify playlist is anyone is interested:

I like it… I think it’s a good mix of (mostly) little known but fun songs.

THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM! No soundtrack sucks as long as any of their songs are on it.
