This time around, the players union has someone in charge that is doing his job well. Last time, they had very significant leadership problems.
The two sides right now are playing "How About This Proposal"? Then the other side is properly looking at the proposal, then they say "No, But How About This One"?
Back and forth they go.
The two sides do not have to meet 24/7 to create the proper groundwork to complete a deal. They are negotiating, which is much more than the two sides did the last time around.
Personally, I think they will either settle before the 15th, or will be close enough to a final deal that they will continue to work on the final deal after the September 15th deadline.
I firmly believe that neither side wants any kind of work stoppage. Players want to play and owners want to operate their teams.
Too many good things have happened since the last work stoppage to screw it all up.

Ummmm dont you actually have to meet and discuss the issues in order to consider both sides to be committed? The only thing they seem committed to doing is taking their sweet time. No rush guys, you still have two weeks to come to an agreement on......well, everything. To steal a line from the movie Taken...."Good luck".
