I don't think there's anything meaningful about Bettman. For that matter, there's nothing meaningful about what Fehr says either. I don't believe that a deal will be reached and that annoys me!

IMO I think the players should get 50-52% of Hockey related revenues on an 8 tear CBA, eliminate guaranteed contracts to force them to work for their money instead of getting paid when their not producing what they are making, and make a hard salary cap ceiling and floor. As for the revenue sharing, I'd say leave a stipulation in the CBA where after 3 years if a majority of the smaller market teams can't break even then it can be re-addressed and put something in place then, but those teams must do all they can to try and get their books in order instead of giving up for 3 years to get the shared money.

I'm too disgruntled to contribute anything positive, so I'll take a different route...

Does Bettman remind anyone else of Mr Leaky from BioDome?

The NHL proposed the 10 year deal did they not? Seriously asking. And I think the most likely thing would be for teams to pay a luxury tax if they are over the cap. They couldn't put half the league over the salary cap without something as an insurance. And Gary Bettman does like how David Stern operates so personally, I could see them having a Bird Rights kind of deal where you can go over the cap to re-sign players that have been with your team for about 3 years and I could see them having the luxury tax thing. That's just what I think though.

IMO the NHL is not a 30 team league.. It is not viable enough in North America to justify having 30 teams AND a 72 Million dollar cap! If the NHL want to have 30 teams and have all teams make money, they would need like a 58M cap.... Why should teams like Toronto and NYR etc share revenue to the lesser teams when those teams like Nashville and Phoenix can't even turn a profit when there making the playoffs!???

The harsh reality is that hockey players are paid way too much relative to the amount of revenue generated... It is not all there fault and yes the owners have a lot of blame in that as well...

Bettman would never admit this but realistically this league should have 24 teams with like a 60M cap max! Until the players and owners realize this, there WILL be a lockout every 6 years, just look at the model they are dealing with right now.. Eventually the NHL will get run into the ground and there will be NO MORE NHL cause the people in the U.S. market will never come back!

While I'd love, and most fans would love, a 10 year deal the NHL won't do it because they want to see how it works first.

With the salary cap going down there have been a few reports that the league will have ways for them to get a little relief on that. How much? Who knows. I think they'll have ways to help teams out as well as an amnesty clause if teams want to use it.

I agree this deal seems better but I don't think it will really go anywhere. I'm just not overly positive about this at all.

I've read some of the leaks and I think this is a positive step. I still think the players deserve a little more than what the league is offering and I'd really like to see a 10 year deal in place just to prevent this nonsense from happening on a regular basis...but I think the leagues offer was a big step from where they were.

I don't think, however, it's fair to have the salary cap lowered to the point that 16 teams are over it. They need to address that one way or another. Especially with some of the signings this past summer. Not very fair to the teams or the players that signed those deals.

Who knows, if the players come back with something in the middle we may actually get started on time!
