Okay madman69 thanks for being completely offensive for absolutely no reason. You are the slack-jawed yokel if you’re questioning whether NHL owners are wealthy or not. In case you cannot comprehend this fact because your parents are first cousins I will spell it out for you: if you own a professional sports franchise, then YES that means you are already beyond wealthy. Just because your franchise is losing money doesn’t mean that you aren’t financially well-off to begin with. Pretty much every NHL owner has numerous financial investments and not every single investment will be in the black all of the time. Most of the franchises struggling the most are that way because Bettman has expanded into too many non-traditional hockey markets where the average sports fans just don’t care enough to spend $50 per ticket for nose bleed seats. Although I have nothing against franchises like Tampa Bay, Florida, Carolina, Nashville, Phoenix, Atlanta (moved away twice), Columbus, and even California teams struggling financially (i.e. San Jose) they are never going to be hugely successful hockey markets unless they are extremely successful year-in and year-out. And as San Jose’s financial problems show even being successful doesn’t guarantee profit. Unnecessary expansion has diluted the talent league-wide and created financial black holes for ALREADY WEALTHY business men who have purchased those franchises. Why don’t you think before you throw around belligerently unintelligent and insulting comments. And fyi, most Philadelphia fans are well-informed and knowledgeable about the 4 major sports and nowhere near as obnoxious as you.

just a few things i feel the need to express. feel free to disagree, i just have to vent to people who know what the h – e – double hockey sticks is going on.

1.) this guy is a huge butthole.

2.) while i do think its fair that the owners and the players think its fair that they split the revenues 50-50 (which it will become; without the owners the players have no job, without the players the owners can’t make money, chicken or the egg argument there) the salary cap lowering is stupid, especially when teams are signing players despite the negotiations ongoing.

Already wealthy owners? You must live in a trailer and have cletus over on days Nascar isn’t on to watch your boys skate on the slippery stuff…oh wait, you’re a philly fan…same difference. There were only about ten team that were NOT in the red last year. How would you feel if we took about 17% of your minimum wage job away for no reason? you’d probably hold out and get another job right? Comments like yours can make Taylor Hall look smart.

I’ll give bettman this, if there was little momentum in talks at this stage. it’s important that both Fehr and bettman meet everyday from this point forward, clock is ticking…..

Two lockouts in less than a decade. The 04-05 lockout, as much as it sucked, was actually somewhat necessary to revamp the game. But this one is purely, 100% about GREED by the already wealthy owners and to a certain degree the players. However, you cannot fault the players, who create the product, for taking the ridiculous contracts being handed out by ownerships. And then Bettman and the owners have the gall to turn around and force a lockout of a blossoming league because they don’t like the checks they’ve been writing? The fans are by far the biggest losers in all this. If they wanna start somewhere with revenue sharing.. fire Bettman and redistribute his $8mil yearly salary to kick things off.

If the NHL gets lockouts at all he should lose his job. 2 lockouts in less than 2 decades with the NHL plus another one on his resume it be a crime to not fire him if it happens.
