I heard something interesting yesterday, while its true that NBC will still pay the NHL this year even if they don’t play if NBC starts losing games this season then the NHL will be responsible to give NBC a free season at the end of the tv deal to make up for it, tv rights will naturally be higher at that point, it’s doubtful that the owners will be excited about. That prospect. At the latest this will get done by December 10th so the NHL can get 24/7 and the Winter Classic in. Assuming the players don’t then drag it out a week or two longer to have the Winter Classic cancelled just to spite Bettman.

It’s stupid to compare any of them. Hockey to baseball, basketball or football. Who cares what they do? Let’s find a deal that works for hockey and to hell with the rest of the leagues. It just seems like both parties are using this as a staling point.

Well at the end of the day the owners don’t care as much about winning as they do about making money. Losing baseball teams can still be very profitable…. not so much for a hockey team, unless that team is in Canada (Thrashers/Jets) are the perfect example.

And only the big spenders ever win anything. I know Cubs fans are all about their “lovable losers” but that doesn’t fly in the NHL for any team, unless you count the Leafs as “lovable.”

While I mostly side with the players, I completely agree thats the most idiotic point I keep seeing them make. Hockey is not very popular in the United States when compared to baseball…. and its never going to be.

Only an idiot would compare baseball to hockey….. They are established , an American pastime . Hockey is having a hard time getting decent tv coverage!! Hockey is still recovering from the last lockout. !! Again….. Only an idiot would compare baseball to hockey!!!! another lockout and lacrosse would be better off then hockey !! To the owners and players …… The only ones “irreplaceable” involved is the fans!!! Remember that!!
