The Ottawa Senators have signed their first-round pick, defenseman Cody Ceci, to a three-year, entry-level contract, the club announced today.

The Sens took Ceci 15th overall from the OHL’s Ottawa 67’s.

An offensive d-man, Ceci finished the 2011-12 season with 17 goals and 43 assists in 64 games, then added 15 points in 18 playoff games.

I’m a little baffled with teams signing their draft picks to ELCs with the CBA negotiations going on. I thought the owners wanted longer ELCs. Doesn’t this prove otherwise? Either they’re speaking out of both sides of their mouths or there are some owners who aren’t going along with the league’s demands. Just more stuff I don’t get I suppose.
