I don’t think it’s as big of a long shot for him to get fired as you might think, I can’t see the Leafs new owners being pleased about the lockout considering they just paid $1.3 billion for the money printing press and they’ll have loans to back in relation to that. I also can’t see owners in Philly, Chicago, Boston, Manhattan, Montreal etc being excited about this. And by protecting the Coyotes tooth and nail Bettman has wrapped himself up with the small market teams, we’ll see if his richer bosses are pleased about that, I think they’ll cut a deal with the middle of the road teams and Bettman will be gone by the middle of October.

I have lots of Minor League teams in my area….F&*K both of them!!
Does anyone here thing the Canadian and big dollar USA clubs could or might secede from the NHL and start their own league if a lockout kills most of this season and strikes a deal with CBC? This COULD EFFECTIVELY DESTROY the NHL.

How lazy are these guys? They break off talks yesterday and then meet for two hours today when they’re so far apart? The NHL cannot afford to lose one week of hockey this season or any other season.

Both of these clowns should be fired. Part of their jobs is to negotiate. If they can’t do their jobs and even meet for negotiations, then they should be dismissed!

Ridiculous that they cancelled yesterday’s meeting considering how much work they still have to do.

I have prepped a petition asking for the Board of Governors (which, unfortunately, is primarily composed of team owners) to fire Gary Bettman if, in fact, there is actually a lockout and another year-long loss of the NHL.

It’ll be a long-shot to get Bettman canned, but I figure it’s worth a try if we end up locked out.

I’ll be circulating the link to the petition as we get closer to 9/15/12 and if, in fact, it appears a lockout will occur.

Since Bettman represents the owners to some extent, and since he was Commissioner during the last lockout, and since, like the CEO of a corporation, the “buck stops with him”, I think it’s only fair the fan base have a chance to exercise their opinions on this issue (especially since the other three professional sports – MLB, NBA and NFL – have not once, to my knowledge, ever lose an entire year of their sport due to a lockout. NFL came close but had a full regular season last year and the NBA had at least a shortened season the last time they were negotiating).
