The owners did not cook up the absurd Southeast expansion dumpster fire that directly lead to virtually every problem facing the league. Bettman did. They cashed their franchise fee checks, but it was his moronic plan. There’s a reason the very shrewd David Stern dumped Bettman on the NHL.

There’s no defensible reason for two parties on the verge of a catastrophic lockout to meet for three hours a day, take a week in between meetings, or present outlandish proposals that only serve to piss the other side off. If they don’t care enough to take this seriously, why should we? The NHL is three weeks away from critical mass.
