Hartnell is an average player whom had an above average (fluke) of a season this past season because he played a lot with Giroux who has actual talent and scores nice goals not garbage goals. The Flyers GM Holmgren has a long history of paying WAY too much for mediocre players; see Danny Briere, the goofball goalie "Bryz" and most recently too much for Wayne Simmons.

Scott Hartnell is an above average player(20 goal scorer), on the downside of his career. Yes, he had 37 goals last year, 16 on the PP. Do you really think he gets 37 again? Anytime? Then the Flyers give him a "no movement." This is a stretch for a quasi goon that needs to be on the top line to score. Good going Flyers.

hartnell is awsome. I hate it when the bruins play him but you can't help but like him from a hockey perspective. He's not perfect might be inconsistent. But as hockey fans i think its crazy we expect players to be robots. Let's not forget this is not an easy game. Many factors can play into lack of production. Philly kept a good one for a reasonable cost.

I agree, Hartnell is exactly how you described him. He can get under the skin of any player in the league, and then follow up his chirps with a goal or two. The Flyers lucked out with the chemistry between him and Giroux. Hartnell has the potential to score 40, which would be very scary considering his point and goal totals earlier in his career. Even though he did score 30 in 08-09, he has been fairly inconsistent. Hopefully for Flyers fans that isn't the case.

Hartnell is my favorite guy in the league. He is just so fun to watch. However, I did not think he would be playing for another 7. Years, not will he be worth the money he makes around them. He brings a lot of heart and soul to the team but making close to 5 mill a year if the CBA wants a 54 mill dollar cap would be insane.... Then again the cap at 54 mill would be the worst thing for hockey. We really need to try to make more money by moving teams to places that would care about this sport. Not places that lose the league millions a year.

I think Hartnell epitomizes the "love him on your team, hate to play against him" mantra. He is easy to hate. He's kind of a pest, but I'll be damned if he isn't a good hockey player. He is flourishing into a team/league All Star, something no soul could have foretold. He is certainly a likable guy from everything I've seen. But, he's a Flyer...and therefore I hate him. jk
