Scott Hannan

The Nashville Predators have signed veteran defenseman Scott Hannan to a one-year, $1 million contract, the club announced Friday.

Hannan appeared in 78 games last season for the Calgary Flames, averaging 20:21 of ice time per game, blocking 126 shots, scoring twice and adding 10 assists.

The 33-year-old defensive specialist has been remarkably durable throughout his career, avoiding any serious injury.

And as the club points out in the press release, “the Predators now have two defensemen with more than 800 games of NHL experience for the first time in franchise history (Hannan, 908gp; Hal Gill, 1,070gp).”

Ed Snider and Paul Holmgren –

Will you PLEASE sign at least one more veteran defenseman?

No matter how comfortable you – or anyone else – feels with our youngsters (Manning, Bourdon, Gustaffson), it never hurts to have EXTRA DEPTH in case of additional injuries.

And our team – season after season – tends to be plagued with injuries, especially at D.

If we enter the season (considering we even have one….thank you very much for your spoiled brat pigheadedness so far, NHL owners!) without another D signing, we are going to be in trouble.

With young guys like Ryan Ellis, Roman Josi, Jon Blum, Mathias Ekholm, etc. on the D for Nashville, Hannan is a pretty valuable asset. Always good to have another solid veteran presence.

Rock. Solid. Signing. The Preds did what I was hoping the FlyBoys would do. I still do think the roster is set and Homer will wait til the trade deadline.
