I wouldn't be so quick to say that the fans will come. If it becomes apparent that the NHL can't get through a cab without a lockout, i think a ton of fans will say screw it and just watch the nba.

Don't both parties in this negotiation "just want more money"?

Seems like a bizarre accusation to make when it is at the core of collective bargaining..

Also, the players might have gone with several off-the-wall suggestions to tackle the discrepancy in the various financial situations teams around the league are in but let's not pretend their proposal is not also aggressive in its own way (basically attempting to pit the owners against one another - partially rightly so in my opinion - rather than taking ownership for creating the conditions for 28-30 healthy franchises).

Ultimately I am far more sympathetic to the players than the owners in this situation but it's silly for guys like Campoli to misrepresent this situation in the media.. just one step closer to the name calling and mudslinging we saw last time when an entire season was lost due to a lack of will to compromise.

Right now, the owners are positioning themselves to only be doing as well as the least successful organization in the league. Again, this fight ought to really be between the owners, not against the players. The most successful teams don't want to split cash with the least successful teams, and so they decide to take it out on the players. The PA has already shown it's willing to make concessions, and they'd probably make more to get the season going on time. I try really hard not to jump to conclusions but the owners had better come up with a good response soon or risk egg all over their faces, and losing all the new fans they've gained over the past 8 years. They know the real fans won't leave but that doesn't mean revenue won't shrink if the league is locked out this year.

Completely agree, the owners are in it for themselves. Everyone is making record accounts of money and the owners still want more. Next season is not looking very likely at this point.
