NHLPA offer: Won’t eliminate salary cap, deemed “better than expected” and “interesting”

While waiting on specifics of what was included in the NHLPA’s “alternative view” to the NHL’s original CBA proposal, here are a few of the early reports, thoughts and impressions from Twitter.
First, an interesting note from RDS’ Renaud P Lavoie:
NHLPA won’t ask the NHL to get rid of the salary cap system. Important step to make sure they’ll be hockey at one point this season.

In terms of how the offer was received, here’s TSN NHL analyst Aaron Ward:
Sense is the NHL believes todays proposal from the NHLPA was better than what was expected. No details on proposal yet.

First impression of NHLPA proposal was that it was not a ‘counter attack’ in response to the League’s July 13th proposal.

Second impression was that it possessed economic elements that were ‘interesting’ to the League.

We’ll have more on the NHLPA offer shortly.

I like how the NHLPA is handling this. They are focused on resolving it while still bargaining in good faith. I’d like to think they understand how devastating another work stoppage would be. The league has built a lot of goodwill since ’04. If this lockout happens the owners will have to take the blame for it.

If there is a lockout avoided it will be because of the player’s flexibility. If there is a lockout, it will be because of the owner’s rigidity. http://bit.ly/RFFFsN
