Seriously Pens fans need to show some class. Every Flyer article this offseason has had some bitter Pens fan crying about the Flyers. Grow up already. Nothing wrong with hating a rival, but it doesn’t mean you can show some respect. Plus an injury isn’t the place to take shots at opponents. Flyers will make a move and take care of the Defense like they always do.

haha thanks man. I agree that last year the pens were worse then the flyers discpline wise. It actually made me very disapointed and sucked more then losing the series Even though we support teams who are bitter rivals doesnt mean we have to hate each other. We will always have our disagreements due to the competive nature of the game but at least we all support and love the game itself!

Losing Lilja wouldn’t have been a big deal, if we hadn’t already lost Mezaros and not signed Weber. At this point, every little bit hurts.

Malkin was not “shut down” by the Flyers this past year. They kept him relatively quiet during the first 3 games while going up 3-0 in the series, but Malkin woke up after that.

I know the Flyers are no angels, but the Penguins behavior up to game 3 in the series was atrocious. Three players were suspended, Crosby totally lost his composure, and Malkin threw several cheap shots. The reason this angers every other hockey fan on the planet is that Crosby and Malkin get away with it. The league also went light on the Penguins suspensions. If the Flyers had done what the Penguins had, we all know Shanny would have lowered the boom on us.

I give it to sportsfreak for having one of the only negative posts that was intelligent.
This is not a loss at all for Philly. Flyers were not innocent last playoffs but the pens def were worse.
Giroux still managed to be A playoff leader in points while only playing 2 rounds…

Haha my man. We are coming from the same place of thought. Gus is a mini Timonen. MAB seems to get more love for some reason. He doesn’t use his head as much as I would like him to. I do think that Gus is better defensively than offensively. He isn’t as physical as Kimmo though. The same can be said offensively too. Regardless, both can be serviceable as a the 6th D-man on the depth chart.

I understand and agree with some of what you say. Neal like giroux lot his cool but schenn headshotted Paul martin prior to ashams croshcheck which gave martin a concussion and put him out the rest of the series. To say the flyers weren’t at all instigators in that series is very inaccurate. Still can’t wait to see hartnell shoving off goal posts after every goal scored against him next year. Here’s to hoping there’s no lockout!

I won’t defend Giroux on that play, he lost his composure after the refs missed a call and it was dumb/uncalled for. But c’mon that wasn’t even close to as bad as James Neal leaping into Couturier who didn’t even have the puck or Aaron Asham slamming Schenn’s face into the ice. Not to mention Malkin throwing elbows at the back of Giroux and Couturiers head. Im just tired of the Penguins acting like they’re god’s gift to hockey while their fans whine about how dirty the Flyers are. It goes both ways, and in that series the flyers weren’t the instigators

i agree completely, Lilja is no big loss. In fact I’d rather he not play at all as he was basically a statue out there. Bourdon’s not much quicker however, but he can hit and has a decent shot. I prefer Gustafsson. He’s similar to timmonen on offense but not close on the defensive side, as he seemed to be out of position a lot.

Pronger never started fights he couldn’t finish. he may have been dirty sometimes but he was open about it. Crosby tries to act like an angel when he’s whining to the refs then when they turn their backs he pulls some grimy moves. Malkin too. The flyers have a somewhat deserving rep, but the pens and their stuck up management (primarily Lemieux) have the gall to cry about cleaning up the game while they’re out headhunting

Haha 8 points in 6 games are “hollow” and he got shut down. I did not realize points in the NHL playoffs could be hollow. I love flyer fans take on stats. Malkin averaged 1.3 points per game and giroux 1.7 but have a flyer fan tell you and giroux produced all star number while malkin got shut down.

Giroux set a team record for points against the pens and totaled 17pts in 10 playoff games. Malkins 8pts were totally hollow as he was basically shut down by Couturier.

It’s ashame that Lilja is hurt but he isn’t going to make or break the season for the Flyers. Gus and MAB will be expect to play on the same level as last season, if not better. I’m not sure who is out there but I wouldn’t be surprised if Homer waits to see how this team plays prior to the deadline. Btw, it’s nice to have hockey back on the horizon. Hopefully things won’t get too nasty after Sept. 15.
