Let's get our facts straight first of all. Isles were 5th worst in 2010, 4th in 2011 and 2012. You are forgetting that for an important stretch, the Isles were relying on RDP (8 games) and a subpar Montoya (14 games after Kane waylaid him). Having Nabby as #1 w/ Poulin backing him will make a real difference. Their play was NOT suspect!!!

No rose colored glasses. Streit has always had a decent +/- before last year. With stability in the net, the old slow defenders gone and a year to get back in form, he'll be fine as will Okposo who also had an injury to deal with.

Very little to correct OTHER THAN building one of the NHL's best prospect pipelines and bring in absolute steals like Moulson, Streit and Grabner.

Sorry BC, it's hard to see... period. I checked, no blindes here.

So Streit, Okposo, and others... really had little-to-nothing to do with those 'minuses'?
They were only victims??? Seriously?

C'mon man... that's easy to say with those rose colored classes on.

Okposo was -15... however you want to explain it.
Streit's point per game%... well, that's something against -27... MINUS 27???
Nabby (19-18 last year); and Poulin (2-4) were already in G for the Isle's.

Islanders = worst team in the league in 2008-09, 4th worst in 2009-2010, 2nd worst in 2010-2011, 4th worst in 2011-2012 and you're saying the BEST they've done is lose a few aged D-men... and keep the same 'suspect' (your word, not mine) goal tenders from last year?

BC... that's PRECISELY the point!!!

I don't 'wish' the Islanders were a poor performing team... it's just a fact that they've done VERY little to correct.

Too much nonsense here to answer all of it. Isles have wandered in the NHL wilderness for many years due to bad ownership prior to Wang and a horrible GM in Mike Milbury. Wang's biggest mistake was keeping Milbury when he took over the team in 2000.

Milbury left Snow with essentially nothing in 2006. The Contract was Wang's idea and wedded the Isles to the one serious asset Milbury left behind: Rick DiPietro. Unfortunately, RDP's career went swiftly downhill in subsequent years--after the one playoff appearance of Snow's tenure.

Since then, Snow has transformed what was one of the very worst prospect pipelines in the NHL into one of the very best while making stellar additions of older players like Streit, Moulson and Nabokov.

There are some question marks such as the status of RDP, whether Visnovsky will play and what to expect from Boyes, but I expect the Isles will be much better this year. In 1-3 years, as current players mature and talent comes to the roster from the pipeline, the Isles will become a true contender.

I think the biggest reason was that he wanted too long a term. I don't think Isles see him as part of the team three to four years down the road. And his stats were inflated by playing w/ JT.

Harder to see with blinders on. Reasoner is no part of the Islanders' future. Okposo had a tough start to the year after an injury shortened year last season. Streit has the 2nd highest point per game % of any defenseman in Islander history after Denis Potvin. And the minuses had a lot to do with older and slower FA Ds playing in front sometimes questionable goaltending. Those FAs are gone and Nabby and prospect Kevin Poulin will be doing the goaltending.

This is the cautionary tale to the "suck for a few years draft really high and get good" plan that people believe will result in a Stanley Cup Contender. The Islanders have been drafting high for what seems like 20 years now and aside from the occasional playoff appearance they never get good. And as bad as Wang and Snow (how'd he get the job in the first place?) are and will likely continue to be, it's been going on since before they were ever there.

Reasoner's -25?
Okposo's -15?
Streit's -27? wow...powerfully leading the way as the Captain?

There are more 'MINUSES' on that roster than Fairbanks, AK in January...
