I don't care what job you are talking about, no one is indispensible. There is always someone waiting in the wings to take over. Gretzky and all the past greats move on and are simply replaced by Ovechkin, Crosby, Malkin, etc. You are looking at these players with blinders on. Given the opportunity many players step up and show they may be just as good. If there weren't great players constantly coming forth in every sport, the fans would lose interest and the sport would fizzle out. You are sounding like these players are Gods and cannot be replaced, each and every one of them can be. If you are a hockey fan you will show up whenever the game begins, whenever that might be.

yeah, let's compare ten bucks to a million. Oh and yeah, let's not forget that while hating that job at ten bucks an hour these players are making millions and having the time of their lives doing it. There is no comparison. And yes, I personally would be more than willing to make less if it would truly help those who are desperate. You must be one of those people who also believe the middle class should pay a higher percentage of taxes than those millionaires you so blindly defend. Give me a break, These greedy little babies are making (in a large number of cases) a ridiculous amount of money for playing a game. This is not rocket science.

I don't know if you've been paying any attention to the STL. Blues but, at least they're doing pretty good compared to the other teams you listed ! But I guess that's what a fan of a rival team would say if they were trying to poach talent off of said rivals team ! PS : I would also like to add that sounds like a LEAFS fan proposal !!!!!

Great call PA! Let's just focus our time and effort to creating plan B and ignore plan A which is strike a deal. NHL players and owners, YOU GOT LUCKY PEOPLE CAME BACK LAST TIME!!!!!! Don't be so egotistical you think it will happen again!!!!

Guess what, you lost ESPN and your respect as a sport last time! Now women's college basketball draws equal ratings.....WOMAN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL!

You blow this up again and that deal with NBC is gone and you can forget having the best players in the world, they just will migrate to the KHL. Fire Bettmen, fire the head of the players association and get people who want to work together.

Ps avg household income per year is 40k per year, season tix to NHL around 5k. Any salary for a player in any league over 250k per year is simply greed therefore I don't sympathize for any of you jerks.

Can't you solve this by contraction of all the teams that simpy cannot make money in their markets or who do not have deep pocket owners who would rather have the toy of an NHL team than the money it costs them? Then you keep the same revenue split etc for the players who are on the surviving teams. Blow away Phoenix, St. Louis, Nasvillle, Columbus, all the Florida teams, Dallas., New Jersey, NY Islanders, Carolina and whomever. Then move one or two to Canada and then you have a league in which teams can make money and pay major league salaries. The product will get better and no need for revenue sharing.

What the HELL is Fehr doing? Could you imagine the pitch forks and torches the moment Sidney Crosby, or Zach Parise, or insert any other players name here if they sustain a season ending injury playing in a meaningless game during the lockout?

Maybe instead of playing meaningless games, they should lock themselves in a room and figure a deal out before you alienate the fans...again

SORRY, BUT WE'RE NOT HOOKERS OR DOGS !

Thus far I've tried to keep a positive take on this issue, given that we LA Kings are the Stanley Cup Champions and all, looking to defend our title, etc. But during the course of these past 48 hours I've had a "vision" ... and it's a vision friends, which I can only describe as "troubling" ? ...

In my vision I see a "pathetic" attempt by these "wealthy" parasites to appease us sheep, by offering up some lame "recycled" garbage tournament, featuring the "gangster-owned" KHL vs the so-called NHL heroes. Oh yes, the "wealthy" parasites will try to placate our anger by pointing out that it's the "40th anniversary" of the greatest tournament ever played ! ... "us against them" etc. Well let me go on the record here by saying right here and now, that if we loose just one "single" game this coming season due to "wealthy" parasitic greed, then the NHL can seriously "go to hell" as far as I'm concerned ! ... not to mention that they can also take this stupid KHL vs NHL "ersatz" crap and shove that up their fat "entitled" asses as well !

Like many of you, I'm also just a regular guy who loves hockey (ie: the LA Kings :) ), as it's part of my life and it "defines" me in so many ways. That being said however, one thing I am "not" is some hooker or a dog, who is expected to respond "obediently" to the orders given by a controlling pig ! There's an unwritten agreement at play here, which dictates that "fan loyalty" is always reciprocated with "team loyalty". So if these idiots don't get their collective "idiocy" in check pretty quick, then suffice it to say, that I'll be checking out of this hotel for good !

if this nhl season gets delayed or canceled, its going to take a long time to get back on track. More so in the non hockey markets which is the main reason why bettman and co. came in with a low contract offer to the nhlpa. If you had 30 teams like Toronto and Vancouver I'd say screw bettman. Fact is they don't so just take the hit nhlpa and continue to grow the sport like it has been growing and fight hard on the next negotiations if indeed the sport actually does grow. Market value for them widely varies per market. Get it done nhlpa. I know you guys read these posts.

You can make your arguments as to who's to blame but more and more I'm getting choked at the PA. The players have known for years this day was coming and the NHL made a firm offer three weeks ago. The players only response is to drag their feet, and ask for information that has been in the leagues hands for ages so they can study it now.

Cramming for exams doesn't work in school and cramming for info doesn't work now, nor do I believe the PA is actually that unprepared and/or stupid. They are playing chicken with the deadline and forcing the owners to make all the moves so they can sit back and say "It wasn't us."

No it wasn't you Mr Fehr who is about to lock out the players and perhaps cause a work stoppage but you are the one who wouldn't take anything seriously aside from your star players salary (and only the star players, most players would be largely unaffected by the drop in salary)

if you were serious about good faith negotiations you'd have had a draft counter proposal ready before the NHL's even hit the table and it would have been edited and before the owners before the week was out. Instead we get this nonsense asking for more info and claiming the end of the contract is "not a magic date". Get your offer in to the table now so that the owners can look at it and actually do business, all you are doing is holding the process hostage.

It's more the NHL Owners that are being greedy. These guys get paid that much because they are the only ones in the world that can do those kinds of things. Why should I pay you the same as them if you can't do 3/4 of what they do? When you're the best at your job you can demand whatever you want. Especially when you have fans and you bring in money.

The difference is a million dollars, which apparently they should not care about losing because they make more money than we do. Just because they earn a lot of money does not mean that they should happily earn less than market value. But uses your "logic" on yourself for a minute. There are homeless people eating garbage that would kill for $10 an hour. Does that mean you should earn less? Didn't think so.

They will lose SO many more fans if they destroy yet ANOTHER season in an 8 year span. I know I will be genuinely let down and it will hard for me to support this league ever again if they can't even get players on the ice.

Of course the Union is going to do something like this. They need to start being the hammer and stop being the nail. The NBPA constantly talked about an All-Star tour during their lockout. I don't know if it will work or not, but I know it will work better than doing nothing.
